Small magnitude 3.9 earthquake 13 km north of Concepcion, Panama

An intermediate magnitude 3.9 earthquake was reported late at night near Concepcion, El Porvenir, Guna Yala, Panama.
According to The Colombian Geological Service (SGC), the quake hit on Tuesday, March 4th, 2025, at 11:53 pm local time at an intermediate depth of 88. km. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from The Incorporated Research Institutions for Seismology (IRIS) which listed the quake at magnitude 4.3. A third agency, the United States Geological Survey, reported the same quake at magnitude 4.3.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Achutupo (pop. 1,800) located 9 km from the epicenter, Ailigandí (pop. 1,700) 11 km away, Concepcion (pop. 2,500) 13 km away, and San Ignacio de Tupile (pop. 1,400) 25 km away. In Playon Chico (pop. 2,000, 34 km away), Mulatupo (pop. 1,300, 39 km away), Santa Fe (pop. 1,500, 70 km away), and La Palma (pop. 1,700, 96 km away), the quake was probably not felt.
