Moderate magnitude 4.0 earthquake 10 km north of Sannicandro Garganico, Italy The Incorporated Research Institutions for Seismology (IRIS) reported a magnitude 4.0 quake in Italy near Sannicandro Garganico, Provincia di Foggia, Apulia, only 18 minutes ago. The earthquake hit in the evening on Friday, March 14th, 2025, at 9:00 pm local time at a shallow depth of 15.70 km. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report. Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter. Weak shaking might have been felt in Sannicandro Garganico (pop. 15,800) located 10 km from the epicenter, and San Giovanni Rotondo (pop. 26,200) 29 km away. Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include San Severo (pop. 54,900) located 30 km from the epicenter, Torremaggiore (pop. 17,000) 34 km away, Manfredonia (pop. 52,900) 45 km away, Termoli (pop. 31,000) 46 km away, Lucera (pop. 32,200) 50 km away, and Foggia (pop. 137,000) 52 km away.
