Moderate earthquake of magnitude 4.4 just reported 63 miles northwest of Anchorage, Alaska, United States Just 3 minutes ago, a 4.4-magnitude earthquake struck near Anchorage, Alaska, USA. The tremor was recorded around noon on Friday, October 24th, 2025, at 12:03 pm local time, at a moderately shallow depth of 41 miles below the surface. The event was filed by the United States Geological Survey, the first seismological agency to report it. A second report was later issued by The Incorporated Research Institutions for Seismology (IRIS), which listed it as a magnitude 4.4 earthquake as well. A third agency, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), reported the same quake at magnitude 4.4. Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Skwentna (pop. 37) located 10 miles from the epicenter, Willow (pop. 2,100) 39 miles away, Susitna North (pop. 1,300) 47 miles away, Big Lake (pop. 3,400) 48 miles away, Houston (pop. 2,200) 48 miles away, Meadow Lakes (pop. 7,600) 55 miles away, Knik-Fairview (pop. 14,900) 58 miles away, Wasilla (pop. 9,300) 61 miles away, Anchorage (pop. 291,200) 63 miles away, and Eagle River (pop. 24,800) 66 miles away.
