Small magnitude 3.9 earthquake 33 km north of Arnavutkoey, Turkey An earthquake of magnitude 3.9 occurred early evening on Sunday, October 26th, 2025, at 7:44 pm local time near Arnavutkoey, Istanbul, Turkey, as reported by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC). According to preliminary data, the quake was located at a shallow depth of 11.20 km. Shallow earthquakes are felt more strongly than deeper ones as they are closer to the surface. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report. Our monitoring service identified a second report from The Seismological Survey of Serbia (SSS) which listed the quake at magnitude 4.1. Other agencies reporting the same quake include the Kandilli Oservatory and Earthquake Research Institute in Istanbul (KOERI-RETMC) at magnitude 3.9, the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake at magnitude 3.7, and The Aristotle University of Thessaloniki Geophysical Lab. (AUTH) at magnitude 3.1. Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter. Weak shaking might have been felt in Durusu (pop. 2,800) located 20 km from the epicenter. Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Arnavutkoey (pop. 198,200) located 33 km from the epicenter, Sultangazi (pop. 436,900) 44 km away, Basaksehir (pop. 193,800) 44 km away, Esenler (pop. 520,200) 50 km away, Esenyurt (pop. 211,300) 50 km away, Bagcilar (pop. 749,000) 51 km away, Sisli (pop. 314,700) 52 km away, and Istanbul (pop. 14,804,100) 56 km away.
