Small magnitude 3.5 quake hits 37 km west of Limassol, Cyprus in the afternoon An earthquake of magnitude 3.5 occurred in the afternoon on Wednesday, November 12th, 2025, at 4:37 pm local time near Limassol, Limassol District, Cyprus, as reported by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC). According to preliminary data, the quake was located at a very shallow depth of 5.70 km. Shallow earthquakes are felt more strongly than deeper ones as they are closer to the surface. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report. A second report was later issued by the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake, which listed it as a magnitude 3.5 earthquake as well. Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter. Weak shaking might have been felt in Pissouri (pop. 1,100) located 7 km from the epicenter. Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Geroskipou (pop. 8,400) located 22 km from the epicenter, Paphos (pop. 36,000) 25 km away, Kolossi (pop. 6,500) 27 km away, Kato Polemidia (pop. 23,200) 33 km away, Limassol (pop. 154,000) 37 km away, and Germasogeia (pop. 17,300) 42 km away. In Kato Lakatameia (pop. 40,000, 83 km away), and Strovolos (pop. 67,900, 85 km away), the quake was probably not felt.
