Moderate magnitude 4.9 earthquake 79 km northwest of Pagadian, Philippines Indonesia's Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency reported a magnitude 4.9 quake in the Philippines near Pagadian, Zamboanga del Sur, Zamboanga Peninsula, only 11 minutes ago. The earthquake hit late at night on Wednesday, January 28th, 2026, at 10:48 pm local time at a moderately shallow depth of 65. km. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report. Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter. Weak shaking might have been felt in Leon Postigo (pop. 3,800) located 13 km from the epicenter, Ipil (pop. 19,200) 61 km away, Dipolog (pop. 93,500) 62 km away, Mahayag (pop. 17,100) 65 km away, Molave (pop. 21,100) 71 km away, Dapitan (pop. 85,200) 75 km away, Pagadian (pop. 206,500) 79 km away, and Muricay (pop. 132,100) 82 km away. VolcanoDiscovery will automatically update magnitude and depth if these change and follow up if other significant news about the quake become available. If you’re in the area, please send us your experience through our reporting mechanism, either online or via our mobile app. This will help us provide more first-hand updates to anyone around the globe who wants to know more about this quake.
