Small magnitude 2.7 quake hits 12 km southwest of Granada, Spain in the morning An earthquake of magnitude 2.7 occurred in the morning on Friday, May 1st, 2026, at 7:06 am local time near Granada, Andalusia, Spain, as reported by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC). According to preliminary data, the quake was located at a very shallow depth of 0. km. Shallow earthquakes are felt more strongly than deeper ones as they are closer to the surface. Magnitude and other quake parameters can still change in the coming hours as the agency continues to process seismic data. Our monitoring service identified a second report from the Portuguese Institute for Sea and Atmosphere (Instituto Português do Mar e da Atmosfera, IPMA) which listed the quake at magnitude 2.4. Other agencies reporting the same quake include Spain's Instituto Geográfico Nacional (IGN) at magnitude 2.8, and the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake at magnitude 2.8. Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter. Weak shaking might have been felt in Santafe (pop. 15,400) located 3 km from the epicenter. Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Las Gabias (pop. 16,400) located 7 km from the epicenter, Atarfe (pop. 15,400) 8 km away, Armilla (pop. 21,400) 10 km away, Maracena (pop. 20,800) 10 km away, Albolote (pop. 17,100) 11 km away, Granada (pop. 233,500) 12 km away, and Zubia (pop. 19,000) 14 km away.
Earthquake data: Date & time: May 1, 2026 07:06 am (GMT +2) local time (1 May 2026 05:06 GMT)Magnitude: 2.7 Depth: 0.00 km Epicenter latitude / longitude: 37.16°N / 3.74°W ( Granada, Andalusia, Spain) Primary data source: EMSChttps://www.volcanodiscovery.com/earthquake/news/301144/Small-magnitude-27-quake-hits-12-km-southwest-of-Granada-Spain-in-the-morning-.html
