Small magnitude 3.7 earthquake 22 miles northeast of Skwentna, Alaska, United States An earthquake of magnitude 3.7 occurred in the morning on Thursday, May 14th, 2026, at 7:50 am local time near Skwentna, Matanuska-Susitna, Alaska, USA, as reported by the United States Geological Survey. According to preliminary data, the quake was located at an intermediate depth of 54 miles. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report. A second report was later issued by The Incorporated Research Institutions for Seismology (IRIS), which listed it as a magnitude 3.7 earthquake as well. A third agency, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), reported the same quake at magnitude 3.7. According to preliminary calculations, we do not expect that the quake was felt by many people and did not cause any damage. In Skwentna (pop. 37, 22 miles away), Susitna North (pop. 1,300, 43 miles away), and Willow (pop. 2,100, 51 miles away), the quake was probably not felt.
