Magnitude 5.2 earthquake strikes near Koronadal, South Cotabato, Soccsksargen, Philippines Just 7 minutes ago, a 5.2-magnitude earthquake struck near Koronadal, South Cotabato, Soccsksargen, Philippines. The tremor was recorded early evening on Saturday, May 16th, 2026, at 7:25 pm local time, at a shallow depth of 17. km below the surface. The event was filed by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), the first seismological agency to report it. Our monitoring service identified a second report from Indonesia's Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency which listed the quake at magnitude 5.1. A third agency, the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ), reported the same quake at magnitude 5.2. Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake was probably felt by many people in the area of the epicenter. It should not have caused significant damage, other than objects falling from shelves, broken windows, etc. In Tulunan (pop. 9,600) located 4 km from the epicenter, Buluan (pop. 60,900) 12 km away, General Salipada K. Pendatun (pop. 31,300) 14 km away, Tacurong (pop. 116,900) 23 km away, Isulan (pop. 101,500) 34 km away, Kidapawan (pop. 79,700) 34 km away, Koronadal (pop. 201,800) 35 km away, and Lambayong (pop. 81,300) 40 km away, the quake should have been felt as light shaking. Weak shaking might have been felt in Davao City (pop. 1,848,900) located 89 km from the epicenter. VolcanoDiscovery will automatically update magnitude and depth if these change and follow up if other significant news about the quake become available. If you’re in the area, please send us your experience through our reporting mechanism, either online or via our mobile app. This will help us provide more first-hand updates to anyone around the globe who wants to know more about this quake.
