Small magnitude 3.7 quake hits 50 miles southwest of Adak, Alaska, United States in the evening

A magnitude 3.7 earthquake near Adak, Aleutians West, Alaska, USA, was reported 31 minutes ago by the United States Geological Survey, considered the key international and national agency that monitors seismic activity in the US. The earthquake occurred at a very shallow depth of 5.8 miles beneath the epicenter in the evening on Sunday, May 24th, 2026, at 8:50 pm local time. Magnitude and other quake parameters can still change in the coming hours as the agency continues to process seismic data.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from The Incorporated Research Institutions for Seismology (IRIS) which listed the quake at magnitude 3.7 as well. A third agency, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), reported the same quake at magnitude 3.7.
According to preliminary calculations, we do not expect that the quake was felt by many people and did not cause any damage. In Adak (pop. 330, 50 miles away), the quake was probably not felt.
