Significant magnitude 6.0 quake hits 87 km northeast of Lospalos, Timor-Leste after midnight

Just 6 minutes ago, a 6.0-magnitude earthquake struck near Lospalos, Lautein, Timor-Leste. The tremor was recorded after midnight on Saturday, June 6th, 2026, at 12:57 am local time, at an intermediate depth of 120. km below the surface.
The event was filed by Indonesia's Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency, the first seismological agency to report it.
A second report was later issued by the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake, which listed it as a magnitude 5.8 earthquake. A third agency, the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ), reported the same quake at magnitude 5.8.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake was probably felt by many people in the area of the epicenter. It should not have caused significant damage, other than objects falling from shelves, broken windows, etc.
In Tiakur (pop. 5,200) located 65 km from the epicenter, Tutuala (pop. 3,700) 65 km away, and Lautem (pop. 3,200) 77 km away, the quake should have been felt as light shaking.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Lospalos (pop. 17,200) located 87 km from the epicenter, Luro (pop. 2,800) 98 km away, Baukau (pop. 16,000) 121 km away, and Venilale (pop. 16,000) 139 km away.
