SPC Severe Thunderstorm Watch 559WW 559 SEVERE TSTM CO KS NE 102140Z - 110500Z
URGENT - IMMEDIATE BROADCAST REQUESTED Severe Thunderstorm Watch Number 559 NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK 340 PM MDT Mon Aug 10 2026
The NWS Storm Prediction Center has issued a
* Severe Thunderstorm Watch for portions of Northeast Colorado Far Northwest Kansas Western Nebraska
* Effective this Monday afternoon and evening from 340 PM until 1100 PM MDT.
* Primary threats include... Scattered damaging winds and isolated significant gusts to 75 mph possible Isolated large hail events to 1.5 inches in diameter possible
SUMMARY...Thunderstorm coverage is expected to increase over the next few hours across the central High Plains. These storms are forecast to progress eastward into the hot and deeply mixed airmass downstream across northeast Colorado, western Nebraska, and far northwest Kansas. Moderate buoyancy exists downstream as well, and the overall environment supports the potential for strong to severe gusts, particularly as cold pools amalgamate. A few instances of hail are also possible early in the convective cycle.
The severe thunderstorm watch area is approximately along and 65 statute miles east and west of a line from 70 miles northwest of Mullen NE to 40 miles south of Burlington CO. For a complete depiction of the watch see the associated watch outline update (WOUS64 KWNS WOU9).
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
REMEMBER...A Severe Thunderstorm Watch means conditions are favorable for severe thunderstorms in and close to the watch area. Persons in these areas should be on the lookout for threatening weather conditions and listen for later statements and possible warnings. Severe thunderstorms can and occasionally do produce tornadoes.
