Yes, the smartcards can sometimes look like they have failed. However, if you do a reset (on STB3100 there is a black reset button on the back, it should clear the message as the fault is not on the card but rather that the box has downloaded corrupt info from the satellite due to poor signal strength. to clear the error sometimes it'll take you going on the roof and re-aligning your dish and LNB to get a stronger signal and then forcing an update.
