Small magnitude 3.6 tremor reported 13 km northwest of Lubin, Poland A very shallow magnitude 3.6 earthquake was reported in the early afternoon near Lubin, Lubin County, Lower Silesian Voivodeship, Poland. According to the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), the quake struck on Friday, October 9th, 2026, at 2:33 pm local time at a very shallow depth of 1. km. Shallow earthquakes are felt more strongly than deeper ones because they are closer to the surface. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review the data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their reports. Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake was probably felt by many people in the area of the epicenter. It should not have caused significant damage, apart from objects falling from shelves, broken windows, etc. Weak shaking might have been felt in Polkowice (pop. 21,600), located 5 km from the epicenter; Lubin (pop. 77,500), 13 km away; Glogow (pop. 65,400), 17 km away; and Legnica (pop. 106,000), 34 km away. Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Nowa Sol (pop. 40,400), located 43 km from the epicenter; Zlotoryja (pop. 15,600), 46 km away; Leszno (pop. 63,600), 47 km away; and Boleslawiec (pop. 40,700), 48 km away. In Wroclaw (pop. 672,500, 77 km away), the quake was probably not felt.
