Hi all,

Wondering if folks with the Emtech EM200 IRD have any comments about it's performance?

I'm thinking of getting one as a FTA box, and on paper, seems to have a good bang for the buck.

Just wondering what people think about the Emtech's compared to other IRDs in the same price range?

Thanks.

Sorry
Never had anything to do with them, If you want to use it for Optus B3 ask for a demo, One thing to check is the "lipsync" that is when you see the lips of the person talking but the audio is a little behind or advanced.

Twi,I use an Emtech 200 ,it has the 2 ci slots and I use one slot with an Ird 2.09 cam and Aurora card on C1.the cam seems to run a bit hot.Have had to reboot the unit on hot days last summer a few times after lockups.I also have used the unit to look at Fta on b3 sat. and nss6 and pas8 sat. on Ku band.It works equally well on c band with large dish.you have to input the freq.polarity,sr.,etc before you search ,select all network and fta.in your menu on sat.listing you may have all the euro sat.names you have to edit the names and save them.try at www.kristal.com.au for upto date firmwares and editor softwares for Emtech recievers

Yes this is a problem with most boxes "OVERHEATING"
I have ventilation fans for use in summer, 1 100mm fan shared between two boxes with dust filters, Nokias and Dreamboxes are bit expensive to lose because of heat problem in closed cabinets.

Thanks Phil and Ricove.

Since the post i've started leaning towards the Topfield 3000Ci Pro.

I'm basically looking for a good FTA box, 2 x CI slots, for ~$300.

Comparing specs, the Toppy has 1000 more channels (5000, compared to 4000 of the Emtech), and the Toppy supports DiSeqC v1.3 (USALS).

Other than that, as far as i can see they are about identical. The Emtech is cheaper however.

The topfield also has the advantage of support being available here in oz.

I've heard rumours that the Emtech has a more sensitive receiver than the Toppy(s) but that may just be conjecture

As a side note, is anyone using RGB output with a SCART connection?

I have a DVD Recorder with SCARTs and i was hoping i could get digital output from the IRD with a fully wired SCART cable. The manual suggests the Toppy can output RGB via the SCART-VCR connection (as can the Emtech). Should be better than just a plain RCA video connection.

Both have TOSLink (fibre) connection for AC-3 surround sound. Both have RF modulators to output to a normal TV channel, etc.

I'm going to be ordering the Toppy tomorrow from Kristal. Hopefully once i get geared up i can contribute as well

Thanks.

Yes you only need a cheap FTA box, you don't even need CI slots.Like I said Before a cheapie for Globecast then your TARBS/UBI box for encrypted services.
