Generally, the bigger dish has more gain, but there isn't much difference between 2.4 and 3m.
The solid dish may have a better surface accuracy
(I have seen some that are worse).
A solid dish usually is more acceptable for weak Ku Band signals. So I guess it comes down to the price and which bands you want to use.
If you're only ever going to use C band on this antenna, then mesh. If you are considering using Ku, then you should consider the solid.

You can easily use C-band on a Ku dish of the same size. But generally not the other way around. In practice Ku Band does work on C-band dishes, but the mesh dish is not as efficent in reflecting Ku band signals as it is C band.
Think of it like the difference between using a mirror or just shiney metal to reflect light.
The mirror is just a better reflector.

The next consideration is surface accuracy.
The wavelength is longer at C band so it is a little more tollerant of imperfections.
A dish may have kinks, dints and warps in it, these will effect Ku band gain more than C band.
Radiation is being scattered instead of being reflected where you want it to go.

If you think of it in terms of mirrors and light.
If a mirror is perfectly flat, the picture reflected is nice and clear. But if the mirror is warped, then your head may look bigger than your body.

In simple terms you can use a solid dish for Ku and C band, but a mesh dish for C band (or lower)only.

I'd go the 3m. Others might say otherwise, personal choice might have more to do with the selection rather than the difference in gain :-)

Is there any use in trying to receive any Cband signals on a 95cm solid (offset dish) dish that is currently only used in KUband?
If this is possible, How can one add a KU LNB to this and what LNB would be usable.
Appreciate any positive replies.
Nahon

I know of one case where MTV on Pas8 C band was received on a 90cm but that is about it.

1.5-1.8m will get a few more channels but it really opens up with a 2.3m+.

iF im right or wrong this threat was past history smile 2004. I believe at least 2.3mesh dish is far better then other levels.

I have 2 satellite dishes.. One is a 2.4mesh dish but strong frame and was bought in 2000. While the new dish i recently got is very very light and could easily break if not too carefully but allways coution when hail apears in summer times and it is a 2.3mesh dish. Was told these days know in 2006 the 2.3mesh dish is very good and people buy them, But your could correct me if that isn't true.

I believe larger dish will just make no differents either it is a 2.3mesh dish but perhaps its just signal strenth differents but you get the same packages on each satellites available with a good receiver.

regards
Pascual
