Dimce,
both work fine as long as your not silly enough to point your dish to OPTUS B3 and load the UBI stuff. It'll lock your box and then your up shit creek with no paddle.
If that is what you've done, you'll need to pay someone $$ to unlock it or use it as a door stop.

Vlada

[ 26. Lazer,

You must have the 3110. Luckily, the UBI hackers, oops, programmers have not found out how to force update of the 3110. When TARBS was broke down, they managed to send via PAS8 the lockdown code on the TARBS transponder freq's. So the folk that didn’t fart around with their 3110's have the best of both worlds. If you were like me, though, then the devil within you wouldn't give you a rest until you screw it up
It's pretty simple to unlock 'em but I don't want to invest any money in 'em. I say this because I still maintain that it's my stupid shitbox and I see no reason why UBI should, first of all download their shit into it and then lock it. They have actually gone to length to recompile the whole code for the Mentor STB's.
I also wonder where they got the development platform and if that was legal? Mentor Data Systems certainly didn't give it to them, which means "someone" must have had "a copy lying around"
There is so much shonky business going on there and the prime reason is to get back to ripping the Australian ethnic community off as quick as possible

Regards,
Vlad

HELLOO

I just registered today.

What can I say we are a former TARBS customer that has whole family hooked on PINK and BK (and the parents watch MacoTV).

So I can I hook up my dish to UBI or B3?

Is there a Former-TARBS-Customer-FAQ or 123 help file here or what.

please help because due to lack of PINK the house is going MAD and too many arguments at home ).

My dish and TARBS box have not been touched since TARBS went off air.

So from that position is there a degree of horizontal movement and in the vertical to point it to one of those satellites?

If I could wait I won't be here on this page trying to get some information.

I want it NOW!

So is it just the matter of pointing it in the right direction or there is a bit more to it?

I would invest into a satellite signal indicator if that is what it takes.

What frequency is the B3 anyway?? Is it in the 5GHz range or down at around 2 GHz?

OK

So I went to a friend that has all the ethnic channels through the TARBS box as Debono has suggested in some of those posts.

She can get Pink, MkTV, Spanish, Arabic, Turkish and she paid money to set it up.

The frequency is 12640 at 22500 and it is UBI.

So I set up my TARBS box to that and it works there.

I got home and plugged it in and I started to move the dish on top of my house at 11pm last night!!! DID NOT WORK!

Can you see how determined I am!!

So I am watching the signal level downstairs and I have it facing North (I think) or few degrees to the EAST. I thought B3 was up north from Sydney.

SO is there a LAME description of Pointing the dish???

if you dont have much knowledge in doing this just get a sat tech to do it they only charge like $50 and will cause less grief

Makedonec

Here's how you do it.

Look at the signal strength meter indicator on the STB.

Move you dish so that you maximise your SIGNAL QUALITY. You should get around 50%.

Once you maximise then just exit out of the menu. Do not do a Mapping Channel again.

For look angles look at nearby houses with satellite dishes, it should give you a reference.

May need 2 people to do this otherwise you need to cart the TV and the STB to the roof.

Thanks Big Chief

that is what I have been doing last night at 11pm (trying to find north) and this morning at 7am before work.

As I understand it B3 is 152 east and Sydney is 151 east so I should 1 degree OFF north to the east with elevation of around 50 degrees???

If you got only the STB to play with then its the most likely way you can do it.

Tuned a friend of mine within 5 mins with the above method.

Done it a dozen times. This is based on the STB3100 being already tuned.

makedonec try this it worked for me... if ubi freqs stored in ur box, im sure it'll fork for u too.

1)buy a compass to find the magnetic north.
(buy one with a clear packaging, so you can get refund, after ur done with it)
2)do not turn on the box yet.
3)set elevation at 50 degree.
4)set azimuth at around 10 degree WEST (2degree true East for B3 is actually 12 degree magnetic West for Sydney)with the help of ur compass, at this point, it's not that important if you miss the point much.
5)turn on your box. even if you can't watch the channels, you'll see NIT table will be loaded.
6)open signal meter, and get 50% on both scale by moving dish left or right slowly.
and.... here it is... UBI is in ur home.
Good Luck

[ 07. October 2004, 10:06 AM: Message edited by: ShaRp ]

steven, was your box working till today or just purchased one and connected to the existing dish? If we don't know what the full story was, sorry we can not help you with the correct answer! Box obviously locked and does not recognised the card, which means your service was cancelled and if its pointing to Optus B3/UBI then you need to contact UBI to get your box/card activated...

Why don't you get a cheap FTA box and watch ERT and MAD for free. When they encrypt then subscribe. I think they'll be more Greek channels coming..

Steven, ERT is free on the B3, and even when UBI locks its channels, it is still available on the B3 at a different frequency. You do not need to contact UBI or anything like that.

For those needing to move a dish to point to B3, all you need is a protractor and a knowlege of where true north is, that's all I used and I found it (with 98% quality) .

ERT is broadcast from two different frequencies, one is UBI and the other Globecast(which is free), so no need to subscribe to UBI if you only want ERT.

Disregard everything UBI told you on the phone, all they want is your money!

Those of you living in Sydney, you do not even need a protractor, as your dish must face directly north, the lnb rotated so the wire is perpendicular with the ground (ie at 90 deg) and the elevation about 50degrees. As the only trouble for you will be the height of the dish, fix the other 2 thing first, then fiddle with the height. No need for a satellite finder or anything like that.

To find North just use a road map, see where you are and what direction your house faces, or use the sun. Remember the sun rises in the east .

This is what I basically did to find the Optus B3 (never had any satellite experience before) and I found it no troubles at all. I just had the extra protractor step .

Need to find where to point your dish, use http://www.satsig.net/ssazelm.htm

First find your city's longtitude/latitude on google and the satellite orbit degree (152 for B3)

Every Pay TV Operator is in the business of making money otherwise why bother.

Globecast is not bringing in the channels for free either..
