Boggie,

The IRD was most probably Disabled during TARBS and hence the IRD is now Disabled and can not be used as a FTA Receiver.

I spoke with UBI. They can un-lock my decoder - one condition - sign the contract. I signed...the leter to Customer Affaires and a few other mobs...
I do not think is legal to do what they have done. I bought decoder from Tarbs and is my and no-one should be allowed to "play" with it without my knowledge.

Anyway, it will not help (my letter) so I am looking for new decoder. What do you know about Sonicbox? Do they have a website?

Cheers

Boggie,

The IRD was probably disabled during TARBS.

UBI only can enable the IRD if your aligned to Optus B3, on the UBI Freq and have registered an interest in UBI for the FTA channels or signed a contract for the encrypted services.

UBI have done nothing wrong. The MDS Decoders aren't FTA receivers anyway. Constantly playing with the settings on the MDS Decoder will corrupt the software.

I was using it mainly for MAD... Never had the chance to retune to Globecast... But had no troubles with PAS8 channels.... I'll try calling them morrow and see what they say... From what I can gather from my last phonecall to them, they will only rezap your box if you sign up .. Dilema is how do I sign up if they wont let you sign up for Polish Channels... Hows that for "Catch 22"..

why not just re hit the box and enable the UBI FTA channels so that atleast makes the box operational again?

[ 05. May 2005, 09:50 PM: Message edited by: -.Lazer.- ]

Once the box has been disabled ( and it is happening via software updates sent by UBI ) the box can only be unlocked by UBI. I have had a lot of customers ring me with this problem,as they had paid for the box and can no longer use it for FTA channels. Surely this is not right.

I still believe it is not fair to disable someone's box. I was watching some FTA channels on other satellites but once I moved to B3 and picked UBI stuff my box went "bannana". And this is NOT RIGHT !!!

I own this box - box is cappable to pick FTA so I want to use it !!!

Anyway, enough from me - I will buy a new box.

After all If you have bought this box and you have receipts its yours and you have a right to use it on any FTA Satellite. :confused

You must be able to use them on other Satellites after being disabled otherwise this smells. If you bought the Box legally you have a right to use it in any legal way watching any FTA channels if not take the matter further.

The Update rewrites the Flash onboard the box... It has to be reflashed by UBI via Satellite for it to work again... Ive tried other sats....

Guys,

I have very intersting reply from UBI to my letter to Customer Affairs (cc. UBI). I will post it her tonight from home. The bottom line is : please send us your TARBS card number and decoder number and we will anable the service for one week and during this one week I need to reset my box to other frequncies. So it is a good news for me. Please check this topic tonight.

Cheers

My Opinion is If you can prove that you LEGALLY own the box you have the right to have it unlocked, You might not want to subscribe or watch UBI channels but you might want to watch SCTV which is FTA on the UBI platform, Also My Opinion if the BOXES are locked for all Satellites thats fair enough you don't own them. But if you do because you bought it well thats different.
This is the reason why today you must keep receipts for everything.

So it is related to UBI and not TARBS and also when the IRD is disabled nothing will work.

Cheers
Captain

Boggie,

I hope your happy with the result.

If you do try to watch UBI and are not registered your IRD will become Disable as your IRD/SC numbers are not in the UBI Subscriber System.

It can be fixed!
Just modify the box to a valid subscribers number and promise not to watch anything on ubi other than the FTA channel ;-)

Guys,

I said that I will put here the response from UBI :

"... I write in reference to your fax date 06/05/2005, in which you request UBI WORLD TV to enable your purchased TARBS decoder box.

You can use your purchased TARBS decoder box to watch FTA channels on any satellite/platform except UBI WORLD TV. However, to watch FTA channels, or any other channels on the UBI WORLD TV platform, you need to subscribe to our service.

Viewers who align their dish to our satellite (Optus B3) and set their UBI-compatible decoder box to our frequencies will be able to receive our signal. That signal disables any decoder box that has not been registered as a UBI WORLD TV subscriber. For this reason, your decoder box has been disabled.

It is well within UBI WORLD TV’s rights to protect our commercial interests, and prevent people from viewing our service if they have not subscribed to UBI WORLD TV.

If you wish to use your purchased TARBS equipment to view FTA channels not on UBI WORLD TV’s platform, we are happy to enable your box for a period of 1 week during which you can re-align your satellite dish and/or change your decoder box frequencies to receive the FTA channel/s you are interested in. You will not have access to any UBI WORLD TV channels during this period.

Please note that at the end of the period, if your dish remains pointed at Optus B3 and your decoder box frequencies are still set to UBI WORLD TV, you box will again be disabled.

We trust that this solution is agreeable to you, and ask that you provide your decoder box and smart card details to us so that we can enable your service as described above...."

Ok - now my box is happy, but I still can not watch FTA. I think the problem is with the card. On each channel on Globacast (Optus B3) I have message "Channel not authorised". When I remove card and put it back I can get a picture for a few seconds and that's it.

I am giving up and will buy a proper FTA box.

my 2 cents worth

one thing i say is these boxes were neva made to be used for FTA broadcasts there a pay tv box so i would say if u want a FTA box to view FTA channels just get a el cheapo FTA box and everything will work trouble free

[ 11.
