Hellas Sat back down <br />By Jacqueline Theodoulou<br /><br />THE COMPANY Hellas Sat has finally backed down and asked for its new satellite station to be relocated, away from the residential areas of Sia, Mosphiloti and Alambra.<br /><br />After a long and intense battle between the company and the area’s residents, Hellas Sat has asked the government to allocate them with a different, more isolated location so they can start building their station. <br /><br />Residents had been afraid that their health would be at risk from emissions from the satellite station.<br /><br />The Green Movement has been supporting the residents since the start of their battle and yesterday issued a statement congratulating Hellas Sat on asking for relocation. <br /><br />The statement also included praise for the other political parties’ support, even if it was “somewhat belated”. <br /><br />DISY’s representative on the environment and sustainable growth, Nicos Tornarites, also congratulated the company on its decision, urging the government to stand up to its responsibilities and issue Hellas Sat with a new building site soon.<br /><br />Tornarites also commended the residents of Sia. Mosphiloti and Alampra for putting up a fight and refusing to back down. <br /><br />The matter is now in the government’s hands.
