Nothing worst than someone spreading rumours, but I can see the point where someone has to pay for it to get here and pay for its spot on optus b3.

I was just on the phone to The Cyprus Foreign Affairs Minister, Mr Demetris Christofias, and I must say that he is most surprised at the fact that UBI have exclusive rights to Cyprus Sat. He proceeded to say that RIK TV is a " non profit organisation " and is a state run television channel that is used to inform all Cypriots worldwide of current affairs and provide cultural and entertaining programming. Since it is a non profit organisation, it is impossible for the Republic to allow corporations to use this channel for profiteering at the expence of Cypriot citizens that live overseas as the channel is funded by the Cypriot taxpayer for the benefit of all Cypriots around the world, as well as those living in Cyprus. He is furious to hear that UBI or Tarbs, as he calls it, is intending to encrypt this channel and has promised to raise this issue in Cyprus Parliament. He will also be contacting other Cypriot Community Leaders in Australia for their advice and input. Aswell as this, he will also be in contact with Tarbs concerning this matter. As far as he is aware, the contract is still on the negotiating table, and no contract has been entered into, let alone an exclusive one. The President will also be briefed on this matter as he will staunchly oppose any move for RIK TV to be an exclusive UBI subscription channel unless it is also available FTA for all expat Cypriots to enjoy.

Can you ask them who is paying for it to be sent to Australia, Also can you ask them who is paying for the spot allicated on Optus B3. So by the sound of it by what you are saying the above two are being paid for outside UBI.

I would like to make a correction. The Honourable Mr. Demetris Christofias is The Speaker of The Cyprus Parliament House. <br /><br />To answer your question Phil, all fees of any contract entered into are to be to the care of The Rebublic of Cyprus and it's taxpayers. I would also like to add that there are many Cypriot politicians who are very angry with what is going on in Australia. I personally have also spoken to The Minister of Foreign Affairs and The Minister of the Interior concerning this matter. What is more important is that this anger is also bi-partisan. <br /><br />I would also like to stop answering any further questions unless I can answer accurately, as I do not want to get into any trouble with any Cypriot authorities, by giving an innaccurate answer, as this link has been passed on to the ministers office, and they are now monitoring this issue. If I am able to answer accurately, then I am only too happy to be of assistance.

Now this makes very interesting reading so you're saying in writing that the cost of getting the signal via Fibre/Satellite/Optus B3 to Australia is being paid by the Republic of Cyprus and its Taxpayers. I have taken a screen shot of this just in case if something is edited.

Like I said, The Republic of Cyprus has a policy that this channel is to be FTA for the benefit of all Cypriots (Greek and Turkish as they also have programming in the Turkish language) and is to be funded by The Republic.

Well the way I look at it UBI should run It FTA but the people that live in Australia from Cyprus should pick up the tab of paying to get the channel to sent to Australia. Someone has to pay for it to get here and I don't beleive that the Taxpayers in Cyprus are funding this channel to be sent to Australia. If you have the proof put it in writing signed by someone otherwise I will put a complaint to the owners of this forum as I'm for one am sick of shit being put on this forum without concrete evidence.

The tab is to be picked up by The Republic of Cyprus as it is a state funded channel for all Cypriots in Cyprus as well as those expat Cypriots living outside of Cyprus. This is according to The Cyprus government.<br /><br />You can rest assured that there will be many phone calls from Cypriot government officials to Tarbs Europe in the next few days. As I said, this link is being monitored.

I can see this one getting messy.<br />If the channel is being paid totally 100% by the people from Cyprus ( Now thats everything) well fair enough it should be FTA but if it cost UBI one cent to get it to your Australian Tv's well UBI have a right to charge you for it. We will wait and see what Phil has to say about this but just say If Globecast had it, or select TV had it its still the same. SOMEONE HAS TO PAY FOR GETTING THE CHANNEL TO AUSTRALIA, SOMEONE HAS TO PAY FOR THE POSITION ON ANY SATELLITE. And for one I cannot see Globecast or Select tv or in this case UBI absorbing the bill for this one channel otherwise I for one would remove the channel from the UBI service.

I am a bit busy at the moment as I have other things to do (storm damage) but this is the way I look at it:<br /><br />If this channel is totally funded fully which includes the turn arounds uplinkings on any satellite whatsoever to our Australian shores by the people from Cyprus, well I think it should stay FTA. But on UBI's side, I wouldn't have it, why? If they are not making any money out of it, its robbing one valuable spot on a transponder which could be used by another channel which produces income for UBI. Now as said above, would Select TV or Globecast, Panglobal have it?, and run it FTA, If it incurred them costs? No way!!Like I always say and something doesn't add up here, this channel might be free in that part of the world, but its not free getting it here and if UBI are getting this channel, when its totally funded by the Cypriat tax payers and considering UBI is very short of transponder space, I would be removing this channel from their line up and let another carrier have it. Again, do we really know the truth? Is this channel being paid for 100% to our doorstep? or to get to this channel to Australia at UBI's expense. No doubt the truth will come out in the next few days or so. <br />This matter over channels that are FTA in other parts of the world but being charged for in this part of the world has been bought up 1000 times. Again, will have to wait to see what happens, to see what is true and what is not true.<br />I have sent this to UBI management.<br />Phil

Well Evagoras what do you think of that Most of us know that some nationalities are as tight as a fishes arse ( you expected cyprus Sat to pay for the uplinking and downlinking to Australia), and if you don't know what a arse is its the hole between your legs. I expected that and so did others, nothing is for nothing these days all you are trying to do is make yourself look good but for me you have egg on your face now, you should have waited before starting this.

I'm waiting for Balkans channels and I can see the Greek package getting larger by the week but I cannot believe what Evagoras has said and I agree with MEATBALL, Phil, Lazer and others on this. You have not acted in a professional way, you should have waited until the outcome of this. Two things have happened here 1/ you were conned by lies, 2/ you trying to bignote yourself in front of bigger fish by saying they are reading this forum by putting pressure on UBI to run it FTA.<br />UBI is a company that wants to make money, why should they have to run this or any channel when it costs them heaps to bring it to this country? and all because you are too tight with your money and you don't want to part with some of it.<br />Liski's News forum explains it all. Remember I am from the Balkans and I don't give a shit about the Greek channels.

Thats why I said in my above post<br />"Quote"<br />No doubt the truth will come out in the next few days or so. <br />As for Evagoras I also think he should have waited until things are finalised a bit more than what it is at the moment and that will happen soon.

Nothing is for nothing in this world. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="images/icons/default/smile.gif" /> <br />If it cost UBI any money to bring this channel to this country it must be passed on to the people who want it, Now this is even simple for me to understand so I don't understand what the fuss is all about. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Confused]" src="images/icons/default/confused.gif" />

Quite simple really<br />If U.B.I are desperate to broadcast this channel then they pay the costs to get it to Aus. If the arrangement includes a clause that it must remain FTA on both Telstar10 and B3 then so be it.<br /><br />Even if it is FTA it still adds value to the UBI Greek package for those that are subscribing to it.<br /><br />Otherwise forget the channel let someone else provide it.

Again to stay FTA the Cyprus Government must pay all including the electricity bill for that part of the transponder.

Noones forcing ubi to take this channel<br /><br />If they want it badly enough then they do the distribution themselves and carry the cost of it.<br /><br />If the contract with the channel states it must remain FTA then its pretty simple.<br /><br />Up to UBI they either want it or they don't their choice. The Cyprus channel most likely couldn't care less if they were beamed over Asia and Australia or not.

Phil, I don't understand why you insist on saying the same thing over and over again while there is a TRT EXAMPLE on UBI. <br /><br />UBI bring TRT from Europe and carry all the cost assosiated with it. and guess what???? yes you guessed it right... It's FTA !!!

In this case nobody will carry it as you tell me what stupid company would put it on their platform and make nothing from it. If they want UBI to carry it and run it FTA they must pay all cost + compensate for lost revenue on that one position on that carrier.

The above link is the official release from Cyprus Sat which proves that this channel has not signed any exclusive deals. In fact they request official tenders for the broadcast of Cyprus Sat FTA or a combination of both ( as is the case with TRT ), in Australia, Asia, North America, South America and Afria. Applications have closed on 2/12/05. This looks like they will negotiate with anyone.

Whats Globecast going to do with it?? <br /><br />Only reason why Globecast have ERT Sat is cause the Greek Goverment Pays Globecast to Distribute it<br /><br />If it doesnt make money Globecast won't have it<br />As Globecast here are like the middle man they do the work for the Broadcaster and are payed to do so for the company who has contracted them to do it

I would say that if Globecast gets it they will have it under similar term and conditions as those for ERT. For example, the Cypriots may contract Globecast to distribute Cyprus sat for a descent profit I am sure.<br /><br />I do not know who they are negotiating with. My sources would not reveal this info. All I know is that they are negotiating with Tarbs Europe for the contract to distribute worldwide. They also admitted that they were talking to other companies as well but they did not reveal who. I do not know whether they are negotiating with Globecast. I am just assuming that they are as they state that the company which distributes ERT will be treated with preferance as they prefer to be with the same carrier as ERT.

Same here. I have said enough so I think I will give it a bit of a rest for now and wait and see what happens. It should be quite interesting. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="images/icons/default/smile.gif" /> <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="images/icons/default/smile.gif" />
