For myself this so called Sigma channel from Cyprus that is going to be on Ubi has depressed me. It is a second rate channel and broadcasts poor programs.i hope that Ubi wont take up Greek channel space with Cypriot Channels because they are not even close to the motherland quality. I wish to see Greek channels picked from the following: Alter, Star, Mega, Antenna, Magic.

Sigma, the leading television station in Cyprus, celebrates ten years of broadcasting this year. On the air 24 hours a day, seven days a week since 1995, Sigma attracts a mainly young, urban audience in the 18-45 age group. It currently rates first of six national broadcasters in terms of total viewership with a 33% mean share and 40% in its target 18-45 age group.

can it be watched in greece as well? or is just a local tv?

while in cyprus i believe UBI should bring a channel from the turkish side of cyprus. As far as I know there are 25000 Turkish Cypriot in Australia and they are really connected to their homeland.

EDIT: even a radio would make them happy. BRT TV and Radios are on TURKSAT 1C.

http://www.lyngsat.com/turk1c.html

[ 28. October 2005, 01:54 PM: Message edited by: ShaRp ]

Sigma might be the number 1 channel in Cyprus but the population of cyprus is around 500 000 and they have their own greek dialogue as well. I dont mind if it comes but i will mind if by bringing Sigma it will leave out a quality Greek channel. We just have to wait and see. And trust me if the Greeks wont get what they are waiting for they will not eventually subscribe to Ubi and that is the last thing Ubi wants, to miss out on having aboard a big chunk of the 500, 000 Greeks of Australia.

Masters,

Sigma is a very high quality tv station in Cyprus. It is very modern and caters for the younger generation. It broadcasts many movies and Greek content. All in all it is a very funky and hip channel. Good on to UBI for landing this one. I believe many people will enjoy it along with you Masters once you get a taste of it.

Sharp,

I believe it is not possible to bring a channel from the occupied areas of Cyprus as it is Internationally not recognised due to the illegal occupation of a sovereign nation. Australia does not recognise the occupied areas so if channels from there are broadcast here, you will find there will be a major diplomatic fallout.

Also, the population of the Cyprus free arears is around 800,000. Sigma is a good catch for UBI and will cater for both Greeks and Cypriots. With a large Greek population in Australia, I think Sigma is going to be a winner for UBI. And once some of those channels you mention Maters, come on air, it will be up, up and away for UBI.

Yes, I think I did not do a good job of Public Relations this time! I was a little upset with those comments made by Sharp. It was a little offensive as many Cypriots here in Australia were forced from their homes.
