Hi all,

Long term reader, first time poster.

I've tried to search the forum for this info, but couldn't find anything.

My father is very soon going to sign-up to UBI so he can watch the channels which were recently encrypted.

The former TARBS box he is going to use is the 3100 model.

Is it possible for him to still be able to receive ERT using this box once he is signed up and activated with UBI?

Or is the only way he can watch ERT is to d/c the TARBS box and plug in his Dreamax box, which he has been using recently for FTA channels?

Cheers,

RATLSNAKE

P.S. Anyone already on UBI able to tell me if Sigma or Alter Globe are fully operational, or are they still in testing?

Once you subscribe to UBI you can only watch the UBI channels

One thing you can do is loop thru the Dreamax to the Tarbs box 3100 as the dreamax would have another hole at the back usually underneath were u plug the dish in call LNB OUT thats were u can plug a patch lead in and connect the tarbs box aswell thru the dreamax using one dish saves unplugging and plugging in all the time

But for this method to work you have to make the Dreamax the Master and the TARBS Box the Slave so when you want to watch ERT the Tarbs box will lose signal but when u want to watch the UBI channels all u have to do is change the Dreamax to a UBI channel say SCTV as thats always FTA and then the Tarbs box will get signal again

Reason for this is UBI channels are on Horizontal Polarity and ERT is on Vertical Polarity

About Alter Globe and Sigma
Sigma stil testing on and off and Alter hasent started yet

Anyway i think UBI will have ERT soon also just a matter of when

Thanks for the great reply LAZERSAT. I've been visiting your site too, got some good info.

To set the boxes as Master and Slave, do I need to open them up and change something. i.e. do they contain jumpers on the internal circuit boards like a computer HDD, or is done some other weird and wacky way?

Coz I'm pretty sure that there is such an option in my Dreamax's On-Screen Menu.

Cheers,

RATLSNAKE

all my boxes that i use i just plug and play and it works so i would say the dreamax would be the same just plug the LNB OUT of the Dreamax into the LNB IN on the Tarbs Box and it should work

Just get a piece of coax with f type connectors on it and plug Dreamax LNB OUT to TARBS BOX LNB IN and it should work

Thanks everyone. The ideas and assistance are overwhelming.

Liski, is there any word on the rumour that UBI wants to take ERT under their wing so UBI customers can use just the one box to watch all Greek channels on OptusB3?

RATLSNAKE

A bit of work will not kill anyone and the running of the multi output LNB's are very good and solve many problems.

Hello everyone,

I read everything you wrote in previous messages and make sence to me but I've got a question or maybe I would say a "clarification".

I've got a TARBS box as well. I also have a FTA box "Dion" I've asked my sat technician if there is anyway to connect both to watch ERT as well and he said there is but it's "dangerous". Well not really dangerous but he told me I can burn out my LNB because TARBS is running on 240volts and DION is running on 180volts or something like that. Do you guys think this is true or he was bullshitting to me?

What are your thoughts about that?

P.S. Merry Xmas to everyone!

Well I got my father signed up this morning. Should be active by lunchtime.

Going back to my original question, LAZERSAT I noticed you say that if one box is on V they all have to be on V.

Now my TARBS box has been set to H, as that is what is required to access UBI's channels. However ERT is on a V transponder, so does this pose an issue for the setup you suggested? Or to get around this, (like you previously suggested) do I simply set my Dreamax box to SCTV?

Also currently my signal strngth is only 60% and the signal quality at about 45%. I realise that I need a bigger dish as that is quite low, but if I do this loop setup will it mean the quality will be split even to each box meaning an ever lower signal?

Thanks again.

RATLSNAKE

Loop thru works ok doesnt lose signal at all

Yes for the loop thru option like i said make the Dreamax the master and UBI box the slave then when u want to watch ERT just flick the dreamax to ERT and will work like normal then u will see the UBI box say no signal this is normal but when u want to watch UBI just flick the dreamax to SCTV then the ubi box will work again like normal and u can watch all the UBI channels without a problem

Loop thru works ok if surfing for channels on the same polarisation.

If you loop through from the TARBS box to another FTA box, the FTA box won't be able to watch ERT (on the vertical pol) as the TARBS box has switched the LNB to the UBI channels (which are on the horizontal pol). The LNB can only switch 1 pol at a time. Thats why Lazersat uses the Dreambox to switch poles on the LNB.

To overcome this issue a dual output LNB needs to be used where you run a cable to each IRD

Big Chief. Lazer use a Dreamax not a Dreambox, they're 2 different animals.

Well today I bought a coax cable with F connectors from Dick Smith and followed Lazer's advice, and it works a treat.

I've noticed that the TARBS box receives a signal on any Horizontal channel I set on the Dreamax box, even if it's then turned off. Like Lazer said, it's only when the Dreamax is set to a Vertical channel that the TARBS box receives no signal.

Thankyou all once again.

RATLSNAKE

Since there are alot of people here working for UBI or know alot about it...

Would you know what's happening with the Greek package? I've heard they are gonna bring 10 channels. Is that right? There is only 5 currently working 6 if you include Sigma. What's happening with the rest? Like Alter, Extra etc.

Any updates guys?

thats really strange.

i dunno the logic behind it but because of this problem i had to stabilise my dish to b3.

it's really annoying when something happens to ubi channels on weekends or at nights cos there is no one to send a hit.
