So, all current U.B.I. subscribers are going to need a new IRDETO receivers.<br /><br />And I don't think U.B.I. will suply replacement boxes for free... <img border="0" title="" alt="[Roll Eyes]" src="images/icons/default/rolleyes.gif" />

Why do I get the feeling that if this is true and does happen within 2 weeks, it means that I will need to buy a new box, after having paid for a 2nd-hand TARBS box not all that long ago. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Frown]" src="images/icons/default/frown.gif" /> <br /><br />Also I think the Dreamax unit, that I only got a few months use out of and now only use for ERT, will also be useless (except for ERT), as I believe it only supports Irdeto and not the newer Irdeto2.<br /><br />Does anyone know if it supports Irdeto2?<br /><br />If not, what kind of decoder will I need?<br /><br />RATLSNAKE

The Dreamax should support Irdeto2, so it should be all good!

It does seem to work well on Foxtel and Austar Liski :)BTW , they are now succesfully sharing V5 cards. Try Power Vu or something maybe ? <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="images/icons/default/wink.gif" /> <br /><br />You remind me somewhat of the Iraqi Information Minister. <br /><br />" There is no card sharing " <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="images/icons/default/grin.gif" /> Which is a great follow up to " We have disabled all modified boxes "

How is that damage? If you think stating the facts below damage then maybe you are angry that your not getting a new IRD or maybe your still angry at UBI for disabling your IRD after you were advised to change the freq?<br /><br />None of the paying subscribers will be inconvenienced or need to purchase a new IRD. They will be given a brand new IRD free of charge <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="images/icons/default/smile.gif" /> <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="images/icons/default/smile.gif" /> <br /><br />The people who are watching UBI for free won't be watching free in a few months time <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="images/icons/default/smile.gif" />

Could UBI be using the new v5 cards, that people have been mentioning? Supposedly, harder to card share.

Well I better be getting a new box as I won't fork out a cent, I'm happy that UBI is stepping up their game in the move against piracy but card sharing is still going to exist, they are doing it with NDS and Irdeto2 as it is, it will cut pirates down by alot though as your average pirate doesn't know shit about cs...<br /><br />Unless UBI are going Irdeto 3 or something I see Card Sharing threads for UBI on austech already.

I've installed a lot of CA systems over the years, and in a simulcrypt environment, the weakest encryptions sets the standard for the entire platform. Until UBI can turn off MDS entirely, or at least quarantine sub-service groups (meaning replacing bulk STBs), it will still be subject to the same level of piracy and chard sharing. BTW the CA vendors have noticed card sharing ........

But the issue is that the Irdeto capable STBs can't be used with MDS, so they will have to change out all of the MDS boxes to achieve this and how to maintain both services during the transistion. The usual way to do this is to use simulcrypt (a DVB standard that allows mutiple CA systems to work on a single mux) a good example is Austar that is running both NDS and Irdeto using this method. But MDS is not DVB compliant and I doubt it supports the simulcrypt interface. Even id MDS is simulcrypt complient, there is only one control word shared between the CA systems - the weakest encryptions sets the security level. The only other option is to dual illuminate service which doubles the satellite costs ....... it will be interesting to see how this plays out.
