On Friday Night I will start a poll to ask members is it ok for a company like select TV to Slag off UBI in there prospectus, Or Should a company just go on its Merry way and do its best to run the Business
the best way possible without dirty tactics. Now this should be interesting.

Forget the Poll Phil just add to this post, and for the Sledging of another company in the case UBI it only shows how cheap Select TV is.

READ THIS CRAP!

quote:
(d) TARBS/UBI
Before it went into receivership in July 2004, Television & Radio Broadcasting Services or TARBS provided
subscription TV and radio services to multicultural audiences and households in Australia. The company
was founded in 1995 by Mike and Regina Boulos and delivered its services via the PanAmSat 8 satellite
and was estimated in 2004, to have approximately 57,000 subscribers.
Prior its demise in 2004, the company incurred an unpaid debt of US$30 million to PanAmSat, which
effectively placed TARBS under receivership. The Asian subsidiary of PanAmSat has bought the assets,
which include the subscriber list, intellectual property and equipment. PanAmSat is still owed US$30 million.
We understand that TARBS’ failure was largely due to its decision to invest heavily in infrastructure,
technology and content, including significant costs relating to the build-out of teleports in Greece and
Australia; an oversized and overstaffed call centre; and non-core foreign-language channels that did not
appeal to its major ethnic target groups. It also lacked English-language programming in its channel line-up
and only added an English language channel package in 2003, a year before its demise.
In August 2005, the parties behind TARBS moved to launch a new multicultural-focused subscription TV
platform called United Broadcasting International (UBI). The parties secured transponder space on the
Optus B3 satellite with a monthly term contract, as opposed to long term annual agreements which typically
run to 9-10 years for established pay TV providers.
UBI’s service – UBI World TV – claims to be the largest provider of non-English language digital TV
channels to Australia’s diverse population. The company retails 2 packages to customers at A$49.95/month
and A$59.95/month, offering more than 45 TV channels.

My opinion is Select TV should go on and conduct its business in the best possible way but by lowering itself to this you have lost the slighest bit of credibility they have.

Haaaaaaaaa don't you love the gippo's on this forum. We all know Apsattv has no love for TARBS/UBI but this is not the Question or the answer here. I Also want to know why a company like Select Tv has to lower itself to the gutter level to promote its business because others look at it this way. Why in the hell would Select TV want to do this and I have to agree they are totally stupid trying to run a company by doing this.
If I was Select Tv and I know you're reading this why don't you forget TARBS and UBI and run your new business the best legal, honest way possible because this is what people look at and this is what the members above can also see and considering 95% of the hits on the forum are guest only, they are also reading the above.

Their prospectus is to encourage investment in their planned new DTH service. Part of that is comparing what they will offer with current and ex market offerings. Fairly standard when you're asking for a handout.

You have to know that people who invest in these crackpot plans often have no idea of what Ethnic tv even is. Its simply a business plan they only look at it as a dollars and cents thing.

if they look at it and see Tarbs failed that can only discourage potential investors in this selectv thing.

The Select Tv prospectus, looks like just another prospectus to me. I do not see them as slandering TARBS or UBI at all. If they did, then they would be liable for legal action and defamation cases. They merely depicted an overview and history of what has happened in the past. This is part of the process of informing potential investors of the intrinsic business dynamics faced by the industry itself. They are obliged by ASIC to provide an accurate and informative prospectus before they list. Infact, the prospectus would have been audited by ASIC themselves. In other words ASIC must audit and OK a prospectus before it is issued. There are severe penalties for providing misleading and false information in a prospectus. The consequences for corporations can be very harsh if they do not abide by the rules. ASIC really does lay down the law.

I'm with apsattv and Evagoras. I don't see anything in there that was defamatory to Tarbs or UBI.
