Late last night
1/My phone rang and it was the boys from UBI at the Teleport in Greece.
2/ Delays of another 2 weeks because of a complaint from the Technology park (where in the f..k is that?) that complained about one or two of the dishes sticking out like nuts on a bull and they have requested them painted to match the background (Its on a hill) and only an idiot would walk in front and paint a 7.2M uplink dish if working.
3/Keep a eye on telstar 10 and then you will know whats comming in, in the next 2 weeks.
4/If all is ok the boys will fly Back to Aus in 2 weeks and start the compression games back at UBI to get exactly 13 channels per carrier as at the moment they are wasting space using anything from 11 to 12 channels per carrier.
From now on i'm not answering anymore emails from F..kwits

So if they compress to 13 Channels, won't that impact on the quality of the broadcast (i.e. Pixilation and everything else we hated about the TARBS pictures (except for PAL-NTSC-PAL conversion))?
I mean the compression was so high then, that unless it was a speaker on the news hardly moving the picture broke down into pixilation. I remember, for New Years Eve program on Pink (in the TARBS days) the studio had snow flakes run down the screen. This in turn pileated the picture so much that you could not even make out the picture.

Vlad…

Darth
In the early UBI days most of the pixilation was caused by unwired internet crap to Pyrmont and till today it still causes the biggest headache

Phil,

Yep, I gathered that. What I was referring to was way long ago (a year and a half ago, while still TARBS), but it seems there is new equipment to do the job better. I was doing some recording from DV to DVD on my PC last week. I was playing around with the settings and I have actually reproduced the error we use to experience with TARBS. I played around with different compressions and found that while the picture was still-ish, it was ok but when its fast moving it goes all pileated. The more the movement, the more the pixilation was prominent. It brought back bad memories…

Vlad…
