Have you had an interesting, possibly paranormal, experience that you want to share. I hope so, because I find learning of other's experiences extremely fascinating!

Since the day I decided I wanted to know more about what exists beyond everyday reality, I began having interesting experiences. Here's how it started for me (excerpted from my journal):

As I began to search and study, I experienced glimpses of the supernatural, which I felt were to entice me, give me first-hand experience, and to let me know that I was on the right track. At one point I had two days in which I experienced some telekinesis (which is the affecting of physical objects without physical contact). Part of the experience happened while I was shopping in the garden department of Kmart. I had reached up toward a row of garden hose reels on a lofty shelf when the reel next to the one I reached for came crashing to the floor in a clatter. I quickly picked it up to replace it, embarrassed by the racket, only to realize that I had not actually touched anything on that shelf in the first place, only reached out. Of course I began to wonder whether I was mistaken and I brushed the incident aside. I became absorbed in shopping and, once again, in reaching for an item but not actually touching it, the item next to it fell from the shelf. This happened a third time and yet I could not help but question if it was indeed really happening. Later on at home, I picked up the remote control to turn on the TV and the TV switched on before I pushed the button. I decided that I must have accidentally bumped the button, but when I looked down, I had the DVD player remote control, not the TV remote!

Another interesting experience:

I was to meet my husband in a hotel lounge that required a key to enter. He had our only key and was already inside. As I approached the glass doors, I saw him rounding a corner inside as he walked to let me in. I said, “Wow, that’s good timing.” He said, “I heard you tapping on the glass.” But, I had not.

I would have to say that the majority of my paranormal experiences are connected to dreams and alter states of consciousness in the night. But that requires a new topic!

Yea Briarne! Thanks for your posts and for sharing you thoughts and excellent questions.

Metaphysical Awakening is the title I came up with for my journal of paranormal occurences and lessons I experienced when I decided to find out for sure if there is a spirit world. Metaphysical Awakening has become my theme, as I feel I am waking up to a greater reality.

Metaphysical means: that which exists beyond the five senses. It is another name for paranormal or the spiritual realm.

Deja vu is accurate for what you experienced. It is a French word that means something you have seen before--premonition. Your dreams that predicted some events that ended up happening is a premonition. I rarely have premonitions, so I am quite fascinated when I hear from someone who does! Any details?

As for the black things you see out of the corner of your eye, this is a description many other people give in relation to seeing spirits. I believe the reason is due to the fact that the retina contains two different types of photoreceptors, rods and cones. Rods are used for night vision and account for peripheral vision (around the edge of the eye). These receptors seem able to detect more subtle things that our front-on photoreceptors, cones, sometimes can't "see".

That is not to say that a spirit cannot make itself more visible so that it can be seen full-on. But if there is some general spirit activity around (and there usually is), then if you are "sensitive" you may from time to time visually sense these beings via your peripheral vision.

And finally, while the unknown can seem quite scary at times, and I have definitely felt frightened at times in my search, you can also begin to acclimatise by seeking it out, and trying hard to accept and welcome it so it is not so scary. You might even make some spirit friends.

I have been seeing black figures out of the corner of my eyes lately too. I did some research on the Internet the other day and found out that they are spirits. Some times I see them move and turn to where I saw them and they are gone. Some time it is light. Some times it is a person moving. It's very strange.

I also have premonition dreams, which are completely different from the dreams I normally have. I also have a thought come strongly to my head out of no where which will be a premonition of something to come. I would like to really develop these talents more, but I'm not sure how to.

Malamute

Welcome Malamute and thanks for sharing your experience and knowledge.

I believe the best way to develop your intuitive talents is to focus on them by keeping a record of them--a journal. In this way, detail of your experience, which might otherwise be forgotten, is preserved. It also helps you to notice any patterns going on.

My journal developed my abilities immensely. I continue to journal dreams, life lessons, and all paranormal events. There is often something to record every day. I have found that by writing I will suddenly realize, hey, I have had another dream like this! Then I am able to go back through my journal and read the earlier dream and make any connections. There have been times during my writings that it was not until I had written it down, even though I reviewed it in my mind several times beforehand, that the meaning of the experience became clear.

One day we went to a friends house for dinner. They have 2 sons and a daughter. The 2 boys, my brother and I were outside and then the boys went inside. Suddenly the light went out and i just happened to look straight ahead. There stood a medium sized black dog. Suddenly the lights came back on and the dog vanished.
The boys had turned off the light as a joke and i asked if a black dog had died here recently and they said a black dog was run over just outside their driveway. It was so scary!

Sometimes i think there is something in my cupboard that makes noise but it's only when my cupboard is open. It also sounds as if something is directly above me in the roof. And it doesn't sound like rats!

Briarne:

That is a great story about the black dog! It probably was the spirit of the dog that was run over. But maybe it was something more. Interstingly I see quite a few dogs in my spirit photos. There is a black wolf-like dog that I hope to post soon that is huge, much larger than life, above my house. It makes me wonder about the significance of black dog spirit sightings.

As for the sounds directly above you in the roof, that is another common spirit experience. Gee, you really are sensitive to the paranormal! I have had scratching, tapping, and thumping noises coming from the roof and the walls at certain times. One particular time was when I was talking aloud to a spirit I knew was listening. I had been capturing his image in my photos I was taking around my yard. He seemed intent on getting my attention. So I had a talk with him and told him that there is much more awaiting him if he was willing to move on. I was overcome with a feeling of static electricity (sort of hard to describe). At the same time I heard tapping in the walls around me. It was really exciting and a tiny bit freaky. (By the way, he did seem to move on because I no longer find his image in my photos and I no longer hear his name being played over and over in my mind like I did when I first found him. I think he was looking for someone to connect with and this helped him to move on. I was happy for him, but I missed knowing he was around and that he would turn up in another photo.)

The other time I heard noises was when I was reading an amazing book on UFO encounters by Dr. John Mack that was really opening my mind. At first I heard a sound like a pebble dropping in the wall behind me. The house was dead quiet so it really freaked me out, but I decided MAYBE it was a coincidence. Three minutes later I heard a loud thump as if something heavy was pushed off the roof. I screamed out of surprise. I insisted on getting a torch and going outside to see what could have possibly fallen from the roof. There was nothing there.

I now know that spirit noises like this happen to lots of people. It is often a case of spirits letting us know they are there and are seeking acknowledgement. I feel it is quite a friendly gesture.

I remembered the other day when i went in the pool that one night when i was swimming with my brother and my father i surfaced and turned to look to my left and i saw a person. It didn't look like a ghost or anything untill i sunk under the water and when i surfaced it was gone. Nobody else saw it.

Mum thinks it's a gift to be able to see things others cant!
I have noticed that i have been seeing alot more things since my grandma died. I think there was a time period where she would come and visit me just to make sure everyone was ok.

Have you ever done a seance? I have thought of doing one countless of times but i am always too busy.

Briarne:

It sure sounds like you did see a spirit when you were swimming that night. Night time seems to be when the spirit world is "awake" and more sightings and interactions occur. Also, it is not unusual for one person in a group to see a spirit while others don't. I think that it is quite evident that you have a more fully developed clairvoyant/visual ability than the average person. Or as your Mum says, a gift.

I have also read many accounts of loved ones that have died, like a grandparent, then come back to check up on their living family members in a noticeable way. If your intuition tells you your grandma was there, then she was. I have found that the greatest psychic ability enhancer is learning to believe and trust your intuition, and not to second-guess what you somehow "know" by reasoning away what has happened. In other words, it hampers your skills when you start to reason that it must be your imagination.

Keeping a journal just to record interesting and psychic experiences is a great way to remember precisely what happened and compare it to new experiences. It also helps sharpen your psychic skills through concentration and attention to detail.

I have to admit that I have never thought of having a seance, but it is an interesting idea. And I really appreciate all of your comments and input!

Sure, we can try a seance.

And am I afraid of the dark... sure, sometimes I am. But I try to overcome that fear, or any other fear, so that it won't stop me from exploring.

Some ideas I have used for overcoming fears are:

I tell myself over and over hundreds of times that I am brave, divinely protected, in control, and unafraid. Eventually your subconsious will begin to believe this and relax.

I remind myself that nothing bad has ever happened to me because of the dark (no monsters, etc., have ever materialized or attacked me) so why should I expect it to happen now?

Those are a few ideas. Dig your heels in and refuse to be afraid! It seems that the universe gives us that which we expect, so expect something good to happen.

Interesting about the bus dream. Do you remember it? If so, can you start a new topic on dreams. I'd love to hear about it.

A big part of why paranormal existence is so questionable is because many people rely upon physical proof - particularly skeptics.
Proof that can not be explained as being caused by any other source.
I personally believe that ghost, spirits (call them what you will) DO exist.
A little over a year ago my husband was killed in a car accident. After his death my home became a hub of "weirdy stuff".
The activity began immediately - during the first full day after his death (he had died the previous night).
It began when I put my 16 1/2 month old daughter to bed for the night. Fully expecting her to be a bit disturbed and possibly restless because Daddy wasn't home - instead I hear her laughing and having a right good old giggle about something, she was also playing "Boo" and going "rah!!!" (like a tiger). Very out of character for her at bed time, even when Daddy was home... And very in character for a child who has a supernatural visitor. And typical of the games Daddy would play with her.
Following this was the continuous random pushing of the on/off button on the monitor of my second computer. Every now and then for about 3 days the on/off button on the monitor would be activated and deactivated over and over.
Previously the monitor had never behaved in such a way. It was in perfect working order.
Night time games with my daughter when she was put to bed were continuing as well. Each night she would have a "visitor" without fail.
After the monitor antics there was weeks of random activation of one of my infant daughter's musical rattles. When this began, the activity with the monitor ceased completely.
My daughter's rattle worked on vibration, it wasn't battery operated. Every so often for days it would rattle away by itself.
The rattle had never done this by itself previously.
One really unusual instance of my husband's after-death activity was the afternoon that he got into my perfume.
I'm a bit of a perfume connoisseur. Some might say I'm even obsessed. On this particular afternoon I was in my kitchen area talking with a friend and a huge waft of perfume came from nowhere. It was a massive explosion of scent. The air had been fresh one moment and reeking of overpowering perfume the next. My friend and I just stood and stared at eachother - it was that unbelievable.
I went into my bedroom and the smell was so strong in there it was almost hard to breathe. Not the normal smell in a room where a woman had just sprayed on some perfume... It smelled like I'd drowned myself in it.
I went to my vanity and my bottle of "Beautiful" by Sarah Jessica Parker had no top on it (most unusual) and almost a third of the bottle's contents was gone. I'd only used it twice previously - it was almost full when I'd last used it.
None of the other perfume bottles had been touched and no other perfume scents could be identified among the reek that was most definitely "Beautiful".
It's been over a year now since my husband's passing. A lot of his activity has since stopped.
His latest escapade was a joke - typical of his wicked sense of humour in life.
I was listening to "Piece of Me" by Britney Spears a couple of months ago and eating rocky road that I'd purchased from Woolworths that comes in a tub of pieces.
The tub had been closed (I'd had enough for the time being) and out of the blue the lid flew open while the song was playing. I had to laugh, I saw the connection and it was so appropriate. Each time I closed the lid, it would pop open again. Eventually I had to put an elastic band on the tub to say "enough".

You're welcome - it's all good.
My opinion was that my husband was trying everything he could to gain my attention until he found something that really worked.
I never told you that I could hear him whispering my name in my head every now and then... That's just a bit too "out there" for me to even contemplate and it only happened about 3 times.
I believe that all the activity stopped because he knows that I know that it was him and that he's still around.

I replied to this forum a few moments ago and my post has vanished... Weird.
There were other things that happened as well. Things I experienced as well as things that his ex-wife in the UK experienced as well.
But I think, at the end of the day, he did everything that he could to find out what would get my attention and keep it.
I also believe that he isn't up to so much mischief now because he knows that I know he's around.

I must have a giggle though... My late husband never liked his ex-wife in life and he still doesn't like her in death.
I think he's pleased as punch because if she has a go at me about something, he messes with her computer. He has her over a barrel, so to speak.
It was something he was never able to do in life as she is in the UK and he was here in Australia.
Occasionally he will mess with my modem if I'm spending too much money on eBay or talking to someone he doesn't like. LOL
Good on him though - he's watching out for me!

Wow! And you are so open in discussing his death and your experiences with his spirit. I find that very liberating and healing even for me though my hubby is still alive. I imagine this thread will be found by someone that will be healed by it though because they have lost their partner. I just bet.

Well, I have opinions about this kind of thing.
In reality, if you have seen your partner asleep, you have seen them dead too... Because that's exactly what they look like (unless of course there is facial injury).
I'm not afraid of talking about my husband because it wasn't me who died, it was him... I am still alive and I still have a life to live.
Also, talking about it in all it's gory detail (assuming there is gory detail) is a magnificent form of therapy.
A bit ewww for the listener, but relief and release for the talker.
I am at peace with my husband's passing. I've had closure.
Sure, I have random moments (but only moments) where I think about his abject stupidity that caused him to be torn from me... But they are just thoughts.
The truth is, I can't change what has happened - I can only move on.
Also, he existed. Just because he is deceased is no reason to forget that he LIVED.
