Saw this on apsattv.com hasent been posted here so thought i would post it just incase some here have Horizons TV and didt know about this situation<br /><br /> Pas8 Australian beam "Horizon tv" is now OFF! and while they say they are officially looking for a new satellite, Apsattv can inform you that they got the boot for non payment. Horizon Subscribers you may want to call your bank and arrange a cancelation.

Keep a look out for more Russian channels to hit AsiaSat 4. Mytvplus and Horizon World+ Tv has just announced that they have merged, according to the website for Horizon. www.horizontv.com.au<br />Horizon World+ Tv had admitted having experienced technical difficulties getting their signals on to PAS8 into Australia recently. In the past I understand they may have had a similiar problem with NSS5 into New Zealand.<br />(I don't know if it is true but I heard that 'These technical problems are occurring most likely in their accounting department!!!).<br /><br />Hence the merger !

No issues technically signal was/is perfectly working but there was an issue in Accounting Dept...<br /><br />Interesting to see if something Russian will come back to same spot on Pas8

Horizon TV is back up on PAS8. I hear the the problem was not lack of payment so much as lack of service from Globecast ...... there is more to this than meets the eye.

<br />Yes and no ... it is Horizon on Globcast FTA. Globecast doesn't have the rights to the Horizon channels (well maybe one?). The message is that there are two sides to this dispute and rumours that Horizon are not paying their way could be misleading.

I dont understand the first paragraph? wasent Panglobal doing all the Uplinking and Downlinking, Turnaround of channels for Horizon? so how could Horizon access the equipment?? ... do they mean that they are monitoring PAS8 just incase Horizon decide to uplink the channels themselves to PAS8 all sounds abit " howz it goin "

If I'm not mistaken but when a dish is installed it becomes a fixture of the house so it becomes the property of the premise owner.<br /><br />I don't see how PanAmSat are going to enforce this and stop people from repointing their dish.

BTW I've noticed picture quality of RTR and ORT is a bit worse on AsiaSat4 then used to be on Pas8.<br />Is it has something to do with Symbol Rate which on Pas8 was 28066 when on AS4 is just 20000?<br />What Russian channels are on Pas8 at the moment? It is too dark and slippery to climb roof again.

I think the quality should get better with time as there proberly stil testing things out..<br /><br />Sorry dont have PAS8 hooked up at the moment so dont know what russian channels are on there at the moment

Thanks.<br />I think this newly formed Connect TV will attract Russian subscribers, even with just three channels they've got on AS4 at the moment: NTV Mir (not crappie PQ NTV America), ORT and RTR Planeta. Especially if they will keep price not higher then MY TV Plus's $35+GST.

These are the dishes that TARBS claimed as their asset when they hit the wall. Bearing in mind how much they owe PAS, I can understand PAS's sensitivity to this.<br /><br />Their are two sides to the Horzon argument. One issue is that Globcast are not a retail operation, there is no subscriber "front door" - they don't even have a web site. They make their money hosting third party brodacters who hold content rights for Oz. These third parties operate independant retail businesses with Globecast in a service provider role. <br /><br />So I don't understand how "Globecast" are the content 'kings'", to do so would be to compete with their own clients ........ Maybe this is the issue?????

Globecast are the content kings as well as the global monopoly on content distribution have a look at http://www.globecastworldtv.com/ for their US retail operations & http://www.globecast.com/ for their Global Broadcast Operations

That is a different Globecast - Globecast Oz is only partly owned by Globecast intl.<br /><br />But ..... we're in Australia, check out www.globecast.com.au for the Austrlain service model.

The Globecast Australia site has been like that for about 2 months now before that they had a site similar design to the USA website but was never updated and had very old info on it<br /><br />Also www.panglobaltv.com.au doesn't show much either it did have the indian channels on there at one stage but since Panglobal never actually held the rights to those channels the website was shut and channels went off air....

The satellite equipment on the relevant subscribers buildings is the property of PanAmSat. I really can't see PanAmSat actually inforcing this - it didn't work for ex-TARBS that went to Optus B3 for UBI, TV Polonia and ERT

That letter is to installers.<br /><br />Yeah sure the customer can repoint it themselves but that is beyond the average user.<br /><br />They can enforce it easily if they choose to.

I can't imagine that I let anyone came to my house and check my dish.<br />The only way to keep our dishes pointed at Pas8 is to keep Russian channels there.<br />If they want to do this just to keep Russian customers from sighning with Connect TV - it is probably quite effective (BTW no-one made me offer yet, stiil waiting for letter). <br />The only I know - I am not going to sign with anyone this time until all this settle down and while I can get at least one FTA Russian channel. I do not know if My TV Plus have ever encripted their channels.

They can enforce it to an extent with informing big companies who do state wide installations and nationwide ones not to touch the dish BUT..! there is no way to stop local small operation installers to move the dish or stop anyone doing it themselfs<br /><br />If they are so protective of there precious satellite dishes people should be able to tell panamsat or globecast to come over and remove the dish completly and put everything back how it was ie replace roof tiles etc were the dish was so then the person can put up there own dish up and do what they like with it and without being threatened by Panamsat
