Australia's television universe changes on December 1 with the launch of the SCI FI channel on FOXTEL.
A 24-hour channel dedicated to the genre, the SCI FI channel will offer a mix of modern and classic programming covering paranormal, supernatural and fantasy themes.
SCI FI will broadcast popular series including hit new series such as Medium and The 4400, plus all of the Star Trek franchise television series (original, Next Generation, Voyager, Deep Space Nine and Enterprise), Stargate, Stargate SG -1, Stargate Atlantis, Battlestar Gallactica, Babylon 5, Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Farscape, The Thunderbirds and The X-Files.
The channel will be available to FOXTEL Digital subscribers taking the "Laughter & Living" and "My Escape" package tiers, but also as an a-la- carte channel.
SCI FI will be operated by the TV1 General Entertainment Partnership, which is owned by NBC Universal, CBS Paramount International Television and SONY Pictures International Television.
"SCI FI is a great addition to FOXTEL's multi-channel television universe," FOXTEL Executive Director of Television and Marketing, Brian Walsh, said.
"The channel will spearhead FOXTEL's biggest summer to date. The launch marks the third new channel to be added to the FOXTEL line up in as many months, ensuring even more choice and more value for our subscribers. "SCI FI is an established brand in mature television markets such as the US, Canada and the UK and given the popularity of the genre in Australia, there is no doubt it will be a hit with FOXTEL subscribers."
Peter Hudson, CEO of the TV1 General Entertainment Partnership, said: "We have been committed to SCI FI for a very long time. We're very excited to be offering Australian audiences a 24 hour channel in a first class environment that brings together all their favourite shows. This being the 40th anniversary year of Star Trek makes such a launch all the more special."
SCI FI will be available to FOXTEL Digital subscribers from Friday, December 1 on Channel 132. __________________
