Here is a frame from the Patterson/Gimlin Bigfoot film footage from October 1967.

This film was recorded 39 years ago in 1967. Everytime I have watched it, it has seemed genuine to me. One fact that I think adds to its credibility is that this is a female bigfoot. If two cowboys were going to hoax bigfoot, especially back in the partriarchical 1960's, I don't think they would have even conceived of making it a female. I would think bigfoot was presupposed to be male, just like king kong. Most witness experiences relate to the creature as male.

And I have read some amazing, detailed stories from credible people swearing to truth about their experiences. There must be hundreds if not thousands of witness accounts. Most that I have read seemed very credible to me.

Any thoughts or experiences to share?
Rats!!! Did you at least get to see it though? If not I will try to find another link.
I never really did much reading on 'Bigfoot' before. But your post led me into looking a little into this particular phenomenen. I discovered the following -
This is not a new phenomenen. A similar creature was spotted in the US in the 1800's and there are a couple of newspaper items about it. I have not looked into any accounts by native americans, but it seems reasonable to assume that if this creature is real, then some record of it would be recorded somewhere in their history.
The BBC in 1998 tried to re-create the Patterson footage of 'bigfoot' but did not quite get it right. see the photo below.
When I looked at the BBC photo I immediately saw faces and images in the photo and I include some of them here just for fun.
The imprint of what appeared to be a large animal's left forearm, hip, thigh, and heel was discovered Sept22nd, 2000 in a muddy wallow near Mt. Adams in southern Washington state by a Bigfoot Field Researchers Organization (www.BFRO.net) expedition in the Gifford Pinchot National Forest. All who examined it concluded and agreed that it could not be attributed to any commonly known Northwest animal and may represent an unknown primate.
The man who obtained the Patterson footage, Roger Patterson, died of cancer in the early 1970's. He was emphatic to the end that he filmed a real animal in October 1967.
The man who was with Patterson at the time, Bob Gimlin, is still alive. He is also adamant that it was a real animal.
I note there is a DVD out entitled "Sasquatch: Legend Meets Science". According to the DVD -
For the first time, scientists from many disciplines put the most compelling sasquatch evidence under the microscope and apply forensic science to the on-going mystery. DVD includes:
The full length of the Patterson footage in digital format, allowing you to zoom in on individual frames with unprecendented clarity More of the Freeman footage More of the Memorial Day footage An FAQ on the sasquatch mystery A gallery of images related to sasquatch evidence and research.
I also note there are numerous expeditions being led to look for bigfoot in different areas of the USA this year 2007.
I didn't watch the video. I can't because it takes to long for videos to download with my dial up, but I have enjoyed reading your thoughts on the sightings and I really appreciate when someone posts a pix or a screen shot so I can further relate to the discussion. (Of course, I realize copyright is a bit of a problem)
I see no reason why Big Foot can't exist. I have been to the mountains and I think there could be a world of species of life that we couldn't imagine could exist because of our 'programmed ideas'.
I really felt sad for the Patterson guy. They hounded them fellows to death trying to get them to play the 'fool'. I think if the film were fake that the camera would have been stationary instead of shakey. It's a good point about the filmed big foot being a female... makes sense...
I have yet to figure out why it's so freaking important for skeptics to openly make a mockery and a fool about eye-witnesses reporting 'unacknowledged species'. I keep thinking about that Gorilla they didn't discover until this past century. I don't remember the name but the male was a huge silver back. Apparently them Gorillas had been reported for many years before someone was able to confirm their existance because of the Gorilla's uncanny natural gift for living without leaving much of a sign...
I have just sat here for a few minutes watching the video replay and replay and one thing that stands out for me is that I cannot discern any mouth parts on the face. Wish I could zoom in for a closer look.
Good point about the lack of facial features, Chris. Maybe there are better close-up shots somewhere out there.
What seems impressive to me on this little clip, regarding authenticity, is the solidity of the leg muscles and the movement of the fur there (it seems so heavy and solid). Also the length of the arms.
It appears that each continent in the world has their own version of Bigfoot! it is not only a US concern.
In Australia the aboriginal people know of similar creatures they called doolagarl, thoolagarl, jurrawarra and tjangara. They were said to be huge, hairy, ape like creatures who were somewhat stinky! The colonists came along and named them somewhat differently and are now known as "yowies".
The abominable snowman or otherwise known as the "Yeti" has been known to hang around the colder areas in Tibet and the Himalayas, locally known as "Chemo" or "Dremo".
It appears on doing a little research on the net, I am not the first person who thinks that 'Big foot' may be a shapeshifter, there are others who have done quite a bit of research into this phenomenon. I add a link here to a list of 'Major traits of a Bigfoot entity.
I see what you mean about Bigfoot as a shapeshifter. We get so many reports of Bigcats (like panthers) around here...and a panther would not be a normal indigenous animal , and they never seem to be caught and only photographed vaguely, much like Bigfoot.
I love getting all this extra information. Thanks, Chris.
Bigfoot appears to have turned up again, this time in India, close to the borders of Bangladesh and Bhutan.
There it is called jungle man. The creatures, have been spotted for years, but within the past month, there appears to be more sightings of them.
One farmer said he had seen an entire family of the creatures - two adults and two smaller ones, huge and bulky, furry -- possibly a lowland relative of the Himalayan Yeti, or a cousin of the North American bigfoot and Sasquatch, or Australia's Yowie.
"Their heads looked as if they were wearing caps, and their colour was blackish-brown," he said, adding the four "monsters" were about 30 to 40 metres (100 to 130 feet) away from him as he looked for firewood in a forested area. "The four of them quietly vanished into the undergrowth," he said of the recent sighting.
One Garo Hills group, the Achik Tourism society, has been trying to verify the creature's existence for the past 10 years, photographing footprints and "nests" reported by locals. The group claims to have hair samples of the creature taken from the forest and will send them for DNA testing.
