Being a HAM (KD4QOV) I have wanted to work some of the satellites in the HAM list. I have received RS 12/13 and RS 15 via standard HF antenna but I would like to know if the is an inexpensive antenna or dish that will pick up the VHF/UHF Satellites. Is it also necessary to put a preamp on the antenna under all circumstances.
JAY KD4QOV
Hi Jay,
With the exception of AO-40 after the big orbit correction burn, I have had no problems receiving the sats with just a discone and a long wire...
In fact I have picked up the FLTSATCOM, UFO and MILSAT in the UHF on occasion, with the discone.
Dave...
