Paying for your medical record, what do you think???<br />Well now that my doctor has jumped ship and now practises in another surgery I have asked for my original surgery (7 DAY MEDICAL CENTER at Albany Creek)to send to my doctor in his new surgery a copy of my medical record, and guess what? YOU HAVE TO PAY FOR IT, yes I have to pay $30 for my record. They are desperate.<br />Can any of you comment out there about this matter !!, Also please!! ABOUT BULK BILLING, DOES YOUR DOCTOR STILL BULK BILL? and if he or she does or does not, how far do you have to go to find one that does?.<br />Phil <img border="0" title="" alt="[Mad]" src="images/icons/default/mad.gif" />

Phil for once I probably will agree with you!!<br />I will let a little info out about me but not too much guys. My dad is a Doctor and loves to spoil me by buying his only daughter plenty of gifts (a new VW for my 20th birthday)<br />But really Phil my father is a ARSE!, he owns 6 Doctor surgeries, 4 in Sydney and 2 in Wollongong, he boasts at the dinner table how he screws his doctors who work for him. He loves keeping them poor, he calls them BATTERY HEN"S ha ha ha, 10 minutes and its all over folks. Study what battery hens are, for you who don't know.<br />NOW THIS IS IMPORTANT!!!! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="images/icons/default/grin.gif" /> <br />He has always drilled into us that regarding what business you run always cry POOR MOUTH, NEVER TELL YOUR EMPLOYEE"S that you are making a packet in money, deceit !,lies!, to the worker, this is my dad and how poor he is.<br />We live in the Eastern Suburbs in Sydney, the house just valued at 1.2 million, now we won't get into the other properties that too long, he drives around in three cars, he has 2 late model Mercedes valued around $250,000 each and he owns an old model VOLVO. WHY?, I'LL TELL YOU WHY. He uses this to drive to all his surgeries to show his doctors that he is not rich he is a poor principal doctor batting like his battery hen doctors. Smart prick hey!!! They're all the same. ALL principals are making more than you think, they just like crying poor mouth.<br />Once every 3 months he flies with some of his snobs from other surgeries to Melbourne to the casinos, then he goes to work next week doctoring and cries to his doctors how we have to make more $$$$.<br />Phil, after what I have seen in the last few years they're all the same, driven by greed like my father. My Grandfather was a doctor before he passed away, he cried when he saw how my dad conducted his surgeries, my granddad was a real doctor not a greedy arsehole <img border="0" title="" alt="[Mad]" src="images/icons/default/mad.gif" /> <img border="0" title="" alt="[Mad]" src="images/icons/default/mad.gif" /> .<br />You talk about bulk billing. Some of his surgeries still do, and he only does it in Wollongong so he can get his face in the local paper saying what a great doctor he is.<br />If they only knew <img border="0" title="" alt="[Mad]" src="images/icons/default/mad.gif" /> <br />Do they charge for a medical records? I will ask that but I don't think he does. Well, it's good to see that we can agree and disagree. Probably an important thing in life. As we have seen lately, everyone has there own opinions. <br /><br />I never has bothered to have my file transfered when I switched doctors. But I think it is bullshit having to pay for it. After all it is YOU in the records not just private information for that doctor in concern. It's YOUR medical history. Who knows, maybe they class that as Intelectual Property so you have to pay for the rights to view it!!<br /><br />But I have heard from someone that used to work for the CAA (yep, Christ Another Accident, former CASA). The staff use computers to record pilot information in the database. Some operators use to put in vacant fields 'This guy is a stupid prick' etc etc... None of this came out until someone requested a copy of his pilot history and ratings when all these other comments came flying of the printer. You could see the shit flying a mile away!! <br /><br />Maybe that's what some doctors could be paranoid over cause you could sue for defamation should they write such comments. Colin<br />This happened to my father 3 years ago because he is a arse and some of his doctors are the same.<br />What happened in one of his surgeries was a disgruntled secretary, (yes phil she was MALTESE too. Are you maltese all the same? VERY VINDICTIVE) photocopied private details about a patient which was a relation of this bitch and in her personal file was written that this bitch was a malingering whinger and other horrible things too.<br />Now before long my old man and the doctor got a summons to appear in court, I won't get into the details but my dad lost big time, she was paid mega $$$ compensation for the derrogatory remarks that were written in her personal file.<br />While the shit was still hitting the fan, my dad employed me to go through all the surgeries and check every folder of every patient. He also employed a lawyer to oversee this project.... this is how important it was. Trust me Colin, we found heaps. Too many doctors do it today, they think they are smart. It took a smarter person to photocopy the evidence and stick it to my old man.<br /><br />This Maltese bitch that did this, the first thing she did when she was employed by us was to find mud, yes mud that sticks against my old man, just in case one day she got sacked so she could retaliate. Although she was sacked and we tried to sue her, that failed.<br /><br />You are entitled depending on what state to view your records and if they don't allow you to view your records upon instant request, you can bet your bottom dollar there is a possibility that there are derogatory remarks in there against you and I do suggest that what my old man did with his croney doctors, they deserve everything they got. Also, if you ever do find out that they have done something that is not in the professional interest of the patient, sue the bastards!!!<br /><br />Just to let you all know, this is what happened last year and most principals of surgeries are ducking for cover over litigation madness. They had a conference run by a group of lawyers telling them and showing them how to hide their assets. You wouldn't believe it, my old man was there and so were hundreds of them just in Sydney alone and they tell you they are honest.<br /><br />At the moment, my father does not charge for file transfers and it will stay that way until further notice. <br /><br />Cathy

I'm on the right path there with the medical files aren't I?<br /><br />Interesting to see that the Federal Government had put $10M over the next 5 years into the public health system.<br /><br />This is what I think is going happen....<br /><br />Doctor's liability insurance (along with public liability), is going to go up (still) and soak up the extra funding that has been given to the health system. They (the health system) shall receive with one hand and give it out with the other.<br /><br />I think all types of liability insurance needs to be addressed NOW, but hey, as Conan the Barbarian said, 'That's Another Story.....'

Its only another way of sodomising the patients, to me its extortion and as Colin T said they have to charge you because the secretary has to carefully edit your medical record just in case one of the doctors has commented in a unprofessional way.<br />Regarding medical malpractice law suits in Australia do you know that women account for around 82% of them, so what does that mean if a male goes to see his doctor? He should get a discount because the doctor has less chance to get sued.<br />As for bulk billing here in our area in Melbourne the doctor I see still does. But because I am not a naturalised Australian yet(moved from South Africa over 12 months ago) I have to pay up front and regarding paying for you medical records back home in Johannesburg SA the answer is no.<br />The reason in SA some Doctors and lawyers are on the most hated list and since some of the peoples are so unlawful and there are as many weapons in SA as there is in Iraq I will let you draw your own conclusion what happens when some professions upset the general community.<br />Steve

What bothers me most is there still is a lot of Doctors that still fully Bulk Bill around Australia. I have received 82 Emails around Australia from People regarding this topic and out of 82 51 still fully bulk Bill. Now here in North Brisbane our Doctors area where I live is Albany Creek, There is only one Doctor that fully Bulk Bills and he won't take on new Patients of around 10 or more surgeries around in our area. Has anyone heard about John Howard reforming Medicare???? I heard on the radio on the way home that the reform is gonna screw medicare. They said something about if it passes, doctors can charge whatever they like and the only ppl to be bulk billed will be pensioners and health care card holders(I have a health care card, as well as my mother and sister. Can anyone verify this????
