Oh how happy, or should I say relieved when I got the call from Kim from Telstra saying that my line transposition had been finally done. I say relieved because I had ordered it TWELVE weeks ago. Twelve! When I first called, i was told by a girl named Suzy that oh yes it will only take two weeks. Two weeks came and went, but nothing. Then I sent an email to telstra, after being sick of being on hold for an hour and a half. Oh it may Take up to six weeks from the ordering date. As with before, the time came and went. It is only last week, finally having the ideal chance to call telstra, that I called. On hold for 2 Hours total, with 5 calls being made. Well that day was wasted. Then I try again the next day. Same again. Then finally I try one more time. Yes i get through, only to be told that this was a matter for Bigpond Activations. Hold again. I was then told to call 8am monday morning. I rang in the afternoon and got through finally after about 20 minutes of HOLD. They tell me oh yes it seems it was done today. I say about time. This is appalling. I commend thoise rougue telstra operators and service staff that actually do something to help people. Oh by the way on the first day of re-calling, I hung up on a lady, because they wanted to speak to the main Bill Payer, even though all I asked was Has my line transposition been done. Bullshit I say, It's a simple yes-no answer, there is no privacy needed for that. Telstra need to pick up their act.

I know, there is no way I'm going with telstra, as I have said before, I am going with newcomer aanet. My friend has got it and actually knows one of the customer service employees personally.

Hahaha ... wait till you discover how bad competition can make things... you'll come crawling back ! You still hate them but you'll pay them anyway with a grumble !
Competition hasn't made telecom/telstra, better... it's made them greedy !
Problem is now ... you can't put the Genie back in the bottle !!

Basically the best you can hope for is to think hard before handing over your cash. I've been screwed by both telstra and optus. In all cases the problems could have been easily resolved or prevented if the carrier had taken some simple steps. They are not interested in fixing the problem and have no wish to listen to their customers. And I have no wish to give them my money.

Business is so easy to conduct.. simple policy.
Give your customers the best possible service you can with the best possible price and they will throw money at you. Now sure, everybody wants something for nothing, but screwing your customers to pay every cent they can afford is not what I call a quality service.

Hmmm.... Good thinking, but I heavily disagree with your competition = Greed idea.... Competition just makes things better, for example, have you heard of the 6440kbps downstream ADSL speed in NSW? pure brilliance... Without Competition, there would be no such sudden gains.

Yes we need competition, Look at Pay TV, soon as Competition comes, it goes through dirty tactics.
Telstra rang me a few weeks ago to see how I was going with the blocking of port 25, the guy was polite and baiting me with news that our Xchange is due for a upgrade in 9 months (ADSL)
TELSTRA,TELSTRA,TELSTRA,TELSTRA, the reason why I put so many TELSTRA"s is they have S/W that searches anything on forums with the magic word TELSTRA or Bigpond plus others.
GET YOU FINGER OUT TELSTRA lots around our area are waiting for ADSL.
Phil

Jason,

Well I cant agree more.. I joined swiftel like almost a year ago (or getting close), when they first started.

When I joined it was 70 a month for 1500/256 fixed ip and 4 gb download. A few weeks later it doubled to 8gb d/l and I am STILL paying 70 month, and extra is only 5 dollars PER gig, so like ).05 cents per mb!

Bloody hellstra I was contracted so could not leave but was paying 90 month (and thats discounted as I had helstra on the line for long distance), for lousy 512k down and there 4 gb limit and then extra charged at 17c per mb or some god awful amount. Then my contract ran out and they dropped the loyalty long distance discount..

Its ironic swiftel use the same network, so how can they be so cheap, lack of greed I believe and trying to value for money...

Yes a big swing to swiftel, I explained to the gentleman at Bigpond that blocking port 25 has stuffed me up, they don't care.
Now how many have gone to swiftel, Remember Mr Telstra/Bigpond man what I told you that I will take my anger by telling everyone to go to Swiftel. When the Telstra man rang me he told me I could have a different ISDN plan with a fixed IP address then the blocked port 25 would be lifted. This plan would cost 3 arms and 5 legs, could you imagine an extra 10 bucks just for the fixed ip. So what does all this shit mean, they FUCK UP and I have to pay for it.
Good on you Jason, see I told you that swiftel is ok.
Phil

Phil
You are a arse!
But you give good tips on Swiftel, not bad for the money. Now I can tell others and they can tell Swiftel that I directed them to the new service so I can get some free time, I like that.
Cathy

yes... it seems basically anyone but telstra are good, yet it is really the inexperienced users on dial up that go with those mass-advertised 'cheap' plans with telstra. This needs to change... the ADSL market needs to be more regulated, while still remain cheap. Also the government has said it is up to telstra to lay out optic fibre.. this should be the governments job... telstra will never get off their lazy asses and do this.

Jason,

There is a cool idea!!! wow....

It makes sense upload is free think about it, all STM links are asymetrical - ie same u/l and d/l..

Now what is normal TCP IP traffic for a home or office user, massive download and small upload. You request web pages like less than 1k and then receive 100K or more download. Normal ISP traffic shows a 10:1 ratio of download to upload.

Therefore you have all this upload capacity empty unused.. Its paid for anyway so why not encourage its use. Also ADSL my design is slower on upload than download anyway, so 100% use of upload you STILL wont take up all the space.

Cable is even worse with a smaller upload capacity, the 1500/256 eats it for upload..

You forgot to mention how OPTUS is the worst, they FORBID you to run servers - its stated clearly in the TOS it will result in you being disconnected - what wankers!! Not to mention they block so many ports and throttle others its a joke. You cant use any P2P software, kazzalite will give you peak 1K download on optARSE...

They seem to think its there moral duty to stop sharing of files, web and ftp servers, all 80 / 21 outgoing stuff is blocked, so even if you try to run a server it wont work, but if your clever and port jump it, they catch you by 'abnormal upload' and terminate you anyway.

Considering close to 50% of them is owned my facist American corporation determined that any sharing is piracy, you wonder why.

I would put them all out to sea and pull the plug and do the world a favour!!
