Webmaster Launch Director Joined: Feb 2001 Posts: 678,977 Los Angeles, USA	Light 4.6 quake hits near Shizunai-furukawachÅ, Japan 4.6 quake 21 Dec 1:25 am (GMT +9) NIED reported a magnitude 4.6 quake in Japan near Shizunai-furukawachō, Hidaka-gun, Hokkaido, only 11 minutes ago. The earthquake hit early morning on Monday 21 December 2020 at 1:25 am local time at a moderately shallow depth of 31.4 km. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report. Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter. Weak shaking might have been felt in Shizunai-furukawachō (pop. 22,400) located 28 km from the epicenter. Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Obihiro (pop. 173,900) located 83 km from the epicenter, Otofuke (pop. 40,900) 90 km away, Tomakomai (pop. 174,800) 98 km away, and Chitose (pop. 92,900) 105 km away.
