An earthquake of magnitude 3.0 occurred only 16 minutes ago 21 miles northwest of Fort Stockton, Texas, United States, the United States Geological Survey reported.
The quake hit at a very shallow depth of 3.3 miles beneath the epicenter near Fort Stockton, Pecos County, Texas, USA, in the afternoon on Thursday 15 April 2021 at 5:25 pm local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) which listed the quake at magnitude 3.0 as well.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Coyanosa (pop. 160) located 6 miles from the epicenter. In Fort Stockton (pop. 8,600, 21 miles away), Pecos (pop. 9,500, 32 miles away), and Monahans (pop. 7,700, 32 miles away), the quake was probably not felt.
