4.4 quake 19 May 2:14 pm (GMT +3)

An earthquake of magnitude 4.4 occurred early afternoon on Wednesday 19 May 2021 at 2:14 pm local time near Esmirna, İzmir, Turkey, as reported by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC).
According to preliminary data, the quake was located at a very shallow depth of 8 km. Shallow earthquakes are felt more strongly than deeper ones as they are closer to the surface. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
A second report was later issued by the National Observatory of Athens (NOA), which listed it as a magnitude 4.2 earthquake. A third agency, the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ), reported the same quake at magnitude 4.6.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake was probably felt by many people in the area of the epicenter. It should not have caused significant damage, other than objects falling from shelves, broken windows, etc.
In Özdere (pop. 13,500) located 13 km from the epicenter, and Menderes (pop. 22,000) 16 km away, the quake should have been felt as light shaking.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Seferihisar (pop. 19,600) located 21 km from the epicenter, Torbalı (pop. 50,300) 27 km away, Karabağlar (pop. 458,000) 29 km away, Selçuk (pop. 29,100) 33 km away, Esmirna (pop. 2,500,600) 33 km away, Kusadasi (pop. 63,200) 34 km away, and Urla (pop. 45,200) 34 km away.
