Significant earthquake of magnitude 5.0 just reported 92 km southeast of Hachinohe, Japan

Japan was shaken near Hachinohe, Hachinohe Shi, Aomori, by an earthquake of magnitude 5.0 only 11 minutes ago, Japan's National Research Institute for Earth Science and Disaster Resilience (NIED) reported.
The quake hit at a shallow depth of 28.5 km beneath the epicenter near Hachinohe, Hachinohe Shi, Aomori, Japan, early afternoon on Tuesday 1 June 2021 at 2:43 pm local time. Shallow earthquakes are felt more strongly than deeper ones as they are closer to the surface. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) which listed the quake at magnitude 4.5.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Miyako (pop. 51,700) located 75 km from the epicenter, Yamada (pop. 20,100) 91 km away, Hachinohe (pop. 239,000) 92 km away, and Misawa (pop. 42,800) 110 km away.
