Moderate magnitude 4.4 quake hits 38 km northeast of Heroica Ciudad de Tlaxiaco, Mexico in the evening 4.4 quake 19 Jul 9:50 pm (GMT -5) Just 22 minutes ago, a 4.4-magnitude earthquake struck near Heroica Ciudad de Tlaxiaco, Oaxaca, Mexico. The tremor was recorded in the evening on Monday 19 July 2021 at 9:50 pm local time, at a moderately shallow depth of 58 km below the surface. The event was filed by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), the first seismological agency to report it. A second report was later issued by Mexico's National Seismological Service (SSN), which listed it as a magnitude 4.4 earthquake as well. Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Santiago Nejapilla (pop. 190) located 1 km from the epicenter, Asuncion (pop. 13,300) 16 km away, Santiago Yolomécatl (pop. 1,900) 22 km away, Tamazulapam Villa del Progreso (pop. 5,000) 35 km away, Heroica Ciudad de Tlaxiaco (pop. 17,500) 38 km away, Huajuapan de Leon (pop. 53,000) 60 km away, Santa Maria Atzompa (pop. 21,800) 73 km away, Santa Maria (pop. 255,000) 80 km away, and Santa Cruz Xoxocotlan (pop. 67,100) 81 km away.
