5.4 quake 3 Aug 12:04 am (GMT +9)

Indonesia's Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency reported a magnitude 5.4 quake in Indonesia near Ternate, North Maluku, only 14 minutes ago. The earthquake hit after midnight on Tuesday 3 August 2021 at 12:04 am local time at an intermediate depth of 111 km. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) which listed the quake at magnitude 5.5. A third agency, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), reported the same quake at magnitude 5.5.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Tobelo (pop. 10,000) located 73 km from the epicenter, Ternate (pop. 101,700) 118 km away, and Sofifi (pop. 36,200) 126 km away.
