Magnitude 4.5 earthquake strikes near Kuwait City, Al Asimah, Kuwait 4.5 quake 2 Aug 11:31 am (GMT +3) An earthquake of magnitude 4.5 occurred only 24 minutes ago 63 km southwest of Kuwait City, Kuwait, reported. The quake hit at a shallow depth of 10 km beneath the epicenter near Kuwait City, Al Asimah, Kuwait, in the morning on Monday 2 August 2021 at 11:31 am local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report. Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter. Weak shaking might have been felt in Al Jahra (pop. 24,300) located 39 km from the epicenter, Al Ahmadi (pop. 637,400) 62 km away, Kuwait City (pop. 60,100) 63 km away, Sabah as Salim (pop. 139,200) 64 km away, and Ar Riqqah (pop. 52,100) 64 km away. Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Ḩawallī (pop. 164,200) located 65 km from the epicenter, Al Faḩāḩīl (pop. 68,300) 66 km away, and As Sālimīyah (pop. 147,600) 69 km away.
