A magnitude 3.5 earthquake near Chase, Matanuska-Susitna, Alaska, USA, was reported only 13 minutes ago by the United States Geological Survey, considered the key international and national agency that monitors seismic activity in the US. The earthquake occurred at a very shallow depth of 3.4 miles beneath the epicenter late at night on Thursday 12 August 2021 at 11:17 pm local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.

Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Chase (pop. 34) located 20 miles from the epicenter, Talkeetna (pop. 880) 28 miles away, and Trapper Creek (pop. 480) 30 miles away. In Susitna North (pop. 1,300, 38 miles away), the quake was probably not felt.
