Small magnitude 3.3 earthquake 30 miles northwest of El Centro, California, United States 3.3 quake 18 Aug 9:29 pm (GMT -7) Just 6 minutes ago, a 3.3-magnitude earthquake struck near El Centro, Imperial County, California, USA. The tremor was recorded in the evening on Wednesday 18 August 2021 at 9:29 pm local time, at a very shallow depth of 1.7 miles below the surface. The event was filed by the United States Geological Survey, the first seismological agency to report it. Our monitoring service identified a second report from the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) which listed the quake at magnitude 3.2. Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Salton City (pop. 3,800) located 16 miles from the epicenter. In Brawley (pop. 25,900, 26 miles away), Imperial (pop. 17,100, 28 miles away), El Centro (pop. 44,000, 30 miles away), Calexico (pop. 40,100, 38 miles away), Coachella (pop. 44,600, 44 miles away), La Quinta (pop. 40,500, 45 miles away), Indio (pop. 87,500, 47 miles away), and Palm Desert (pop. 51,900, 51 miles away), the quake was probably not felt.
