Moderate magnitude 4.9 quake hits 7 km southeast of Trento, Philippines late at night4.9 quake 29 Aug 10:52 pm (GMT +8) An earthquake of magnitude 4.9 occurred only 23 minutes ago 7 km southeast of Trento, Philippines, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) reported. The quake hit at a very shallow depth of 1 km beneath the epicenter near Trento, Agusan del Sur, Caraga, Philippines, late at night on Sunday 29 August 2021 at 10:52 pm local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report. Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should have been felt by everybody in the area of the epicenter. In those areas, dangerous ground shaking occurred with the potential to inflict moderate to heavy damage to buildings and other infrastructure. Towns or cities where the quake likely caused strong ground shaking include Moderate shaking probably occurred in Trento (pop. 15,900) located 7 km from the epicenter. In Veruela (pop. 18,100) located 19 km from the epicenter, Monkayo (pop. 51,400) 21 km away, Bunawan (pop. 15,500) 23 km away, and Bislig City (pop. 67,600) 33 km away, the quake should have been felt as light shaking. Weak shaking might have been felt in Compostela (pop. 42,600) located 36 km from the epicenter, and Magugpo Poblacion (pop. 233,300) 70 km away.
