Moderate magnitude 4.7 quake hits 82 km northwest of Dera Ghazi Khan, Pakistan early morning 4.7 quake 29 Aug 3:36 am (GMT +5) An earthquake of magnitude 4.7 occurred only 12 minutes ago 82 km northwest of Dera Ghazi Khan, Pakistan, the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) reported. The quake hit at a shallow depth of 10 km beneath the epicenter near Dera Ghazi Khan, Dera Ghāzi Khān, Punjab, Pakistan, early morning on Sunday 29 August 2021 at 3:36 am local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report. A second report was later issued by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), which listed it as a magnitude 4.7 earthquake as well. Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter. Weak shaking might have been felt in Barkhan (pop. 8,800) located 47 km from the epicenter, Kohlu (pop. 11,100) 66 km away, and Dera Ghazi Khan (pop. 236,100) 82 km away. Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Dajal (pop. 17,600) located 92 km from the epicenter, Taunsa (pop. 44,900) 95 km away, and Jampur (pop. 63,800) 99 km away. VolcanoDiscovery will automatically update magnitude and depth if these change and follow up if other significant news about the quake become available. If you’re in the area, please send us your experience through our reporting mechanism, either online or via our mobile app. This will help us provide more first-hand updates to anyone around the globe who wants to know more about this quake.
