An intermediate magnitude 4.2 earthquake was reported early evening near Nelson, Nelson City, New Zealand.
According to New Zealand's Earthquake Commission and Geological Survey (GeoNet), the quake hit on Tuesday, September 14th, 2021, at 7:32 pm local time at an intermediate depth of 146.5 km. The strength of the earthquake may have been tempered by its relative great depth below the surface, which makes it feel weaker in absolute terms.
