Magnitude 4.6 earthquake strikes near Mamburao, Mindoro Occidental, Mimaropa, Philippines

An earthquake of magnitude 4.6 occurred after midnight on Wednesday, September 22nd, 2021, at 12:43 am local time near Mamburao, Mindoro Occidental, Mimaropa, Philippines, as reported by the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ).
According to preliminary data, the quake was located at a shallow depth of 10 km. Shallow earthquakes are felt more strongly than deeper ones as they are closer to the surface. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.

Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake was probably felt by many people in the area of the epicenter. It should not have caused significant damage, other than objects falling from shelves, broken windows, etc.
In Mamburao (pop. 23,900) located 2 km from the epicenter, and Tayaman (pop. 5,100) 4 km away, the quake should have been felt as light shaking.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Sablayan (pop. 38,400) located 47 km from the epicenter, and Calapan (pop. 66,000) 65 km away.
Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Batangas (pop. 237,400) located 76 km from the epicenter, Balayan (pop. 50,100) 80 km away, Balayan (pop. 50,100) 80 km away, Pinamalayan (pop. 43,500) 95 km away, and Lipa City (pop. 212,300) 99 km away.
