Moderate 4.2 quake hits near Aquila, Michoacan, Mexico 4.2 quake 20 Oct 2:17 am (GMT -5) Just 18 minutes ago, a 4.2-magnitude earthquake struck near Aquila, Michoacan, Mexico. The tremor was recorded early morning on Wednesday, October 20th, 2021, at 2:17 am local time, at a very shallow depth of 3 km below the surface.
The event was filed by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), the first seismological agency to report it.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Chocola (pop. 71) located 14 km from the epicenter, Santa Cruz de Cachan (pop. 170) 16 km away, Titzupan (pop. 260) 17 km away, Maruata (pop. 590) 20 km away, San Pedro Naranjestil (pop. 630) 23 km away, and Colola (pop. 630) 26 km away.
Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include La Placita de Morelos (pop. 1,400) located 58 km from the epicenter, Aquila (pop. 1,700) 60 km away, and Aguililla (pop. 8,800) 84 km away.
