Moderate 4.6 quake hits near Koronadal City, South Cotabato, Soccsksargen, Philippines4.6 quake 27 Oct 9:09 pm (GMT +8) A magnitude 4.6 earthquake near Koronadal City, South Cotabato, Soccsksargen, Philippines, was reported only 14 minutes ago by Indonesia's Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency, considered the main national agency that monitors seismic activity in this part of the world. The earthquake occurred at a shallow depth of 10 km beneath the epicenter in the evening on Wednesday, October 27th, 2021, at 9:09 pm local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report. Our monitoring service identified a second report from the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) which listed the quake at magnitude 4.6 as well. Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake was probably felt by many people in the area of the epicenter. It should not have caused significant damage, other than objects falling from shelves, broken windows, etc. In Minapan (pop. 3,100) located 1 km from the epicenter, and Buluan (pop. 28,000) 12 km away, the quake should have been felt as light shaking. Weak shaking might have been felt in Tacurong City (pop. 54,600) located 25 km from the epicenter, Kidapawan (pop. 79,700) 33 km away, Kabacan (pop. 31,800) 33 km away, Koronadal City (pop. 125,500) 34 km away, Isulan (pop. 31,700) 35 km away, Banga (pop. 58,900) 44 km away, and Budta (pop. 1,273,700) 65 km away. VolcanoDiscovery will automatically update magnitude and depth if these change and follow up if other significant news about the quake become available. If you’re in the area, please send us your experience through our reporting mechanism, either online or via our mobile app. This will help us provide more first-hand updates to anyone around the globe who wants to know more about this quake.
