Just 9 minutes ago, a 4.2-magnitude earthquake struck near Tinogasta, Departamento de Tinogasta, Catamarca, Argentina. The tremor was recorded early morning on Friday, February 4th, 2022, at 4:48 am local time, at an intermediate to considerable depth of 205 km below the surface.
The event was filed by the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ), the first seismological agency to report it.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) which listed the quake at magnitude 4.2 as well.
According to preliminary calculations, we do not expect that the quake was felt by many people and did not cause any damage. In Londres (pop. 2,600, 23 km away), La Puerta de San José (pop. 1,100, 43 km away), Tinogasta (pop. 14,500, 44 km away), Fiambala (pop. 8,100, 54 km away), Arauco (pop. 13,700, 81 km away), and Andalgala (pop. 14,100, 90 km away), the quake was probably not felt.
