An earthquake of magnitude 4.2 occurred only 29 minutes ago 46 km east of Tinogasta, Argentina, the United States Geological Survey reported.
The quake hit at an intermediate to considerable depth of 199.3 km beneath the epicenter near Tinogasta, Departamento de Tinogasta, Catamarca, Argentina, early morning on Saturday, March 19th, 2022, at 6:31 am local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) which listed the quake at magnitude 4.2 as well.
According to preliminary calculations, we do not expect that the quake was felt by many people and did not cause any damage. In Londres (pop. 2,600, 37 km away), Tinogasta (pop. 14,500, 46 km away), La Puerta de San José (pop. 1,100, 55 km away), Fiambala (pop. 8,100, 66 km away), Arauco (pop. 13,700, 67 km away), and Andalgala (pop. 14,100, 92 km away), the quake was probably not felt.
