Moderate magnitude 4.5 earthquake 42 km north of La Ligua, Chile 4.5 quake 20 Apr 5:40 am (GMT -4) Just 11 minutes ago, a 4.5-magnitude earthquake struck near La Ligua, Provincia de Petorca, Region de Valparaiso, Chile. The tremor was recorded early morning on Wednesday, April 20th, 2022, at 5:40 am local time, at a moderately shallow depth of 58 km below the surface.
The event was filed by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), the first seismological agency to report it.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake which listed the quake at magnitude 4.6.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include La Ligua (pop. 24,900) located 42 km from the epicenter, Salamanca (pop. 13,300) 45 km away, Illapel (pop. 22,800) 51 km away, Hacienda La Calera (pop. 49,100) 78 km away, Quillota (pop. 67,800) 89 km away, Llaillay (pop. 16,600) 90 km away, and San Felipe (pop. 59,300) 91 km away.
